Jones vs Calzaghe and Lacy

You can never get away from Calz clown posts (it was an "illegal" punch, fighting 40 year olds - looking comparatively **** poor in the process - but Joe was something else, man! - lol, etc.) on ESB (it's a demographic thing). I'd say Jeff Thomas on the Brit site and one or two others are the only guys who can talk about Joe without having Joe's **** in their mouths.

Read Jeff's posts over the years. Anyone else out of the UK is merely dishing moronic nuthugging. But on the lighter side, there is always this:

These guys keep bringing up Sheika, as if Lacy wasn't allowed ONE weaker performance in his undefeated run up to Calzaghe.

(And Lacy won the Sheika fight decisively. That was the same Sheika who beat Glencoffe Johnson a couple of months before getting stopped by Joe, around the time Joe is NOW, WITH HINDSIGHT, being accused of ducking.)

And it was the same Lacy who stopped Vanderpool. The same Vanderpool who took prime Hopkins the distance.

Most of these guys never heard, of or saw Calzaghe before he fought Lacy.

 

I dont believe Jones took Calzaghe lightly at all, he couldnt really given his record, and Jones has known and probably respected Calzaghe for many years since late 1990s, he just couldnt work him out or outwork him
His best chance was an early KO but Calzaghe always come back strong after a KD

id have loved to have seen this board pre and post lacy and i remember it pre jones too,now that hopkins and jones are turning this whole age/prime and 'shot' thing on its head you can literally see the amount of straws being clutched at its pathetic!

calzaghe took lacys soul that night (anyone with a head can see he is not the same fighter now,he was a stammering wreck for months after that fight watch his interviews) and calzaghe schooled jones to the point of absurdity id even say he carried him for 6 rounds...

now for those who are 'hard of hearing' i say this again...like it or not calzaghe beat everyone he ever faced young or old and was going on 37 himself in the case of his latter fights,now deal with it and move along you pathetic dolts!


i value the opinion of esb as much as i value athletes foot.

Ya can't play these for most US sport fans as they've never heard of Calz. A complete unknown. They get the joke but just have never heard of the friend of the Man from Del Monte.

Roy looked incredible vs lacy..mayweather has 2 be beating.. mays has incredible talent..two of my favs.

 

We all just have to admit, Calzaghe is and was always a cut above the likes of Jones, Hopkins, Toney etc who made their careers ducking him until Calzaghe was somehwat shot with brittle hands.

That plan didn't work too well either.

 

It was the same Jones....

Jones -Calzaghe was an even fight upto the Cut in round 7....Calzaghe was winning by 1 round (according to Harold lederman).

remember Jones is an OLD fighter now he doesnt have the LEGS to move in and out like he used to....HE STAYS on the ropes 90% of the time and is unable to Counter like he used to do. He waits for you to tire after your combinations and then explodes.
