That Jones were knocked out just a few years ago by a high workrate, durable, yet not very hard hitting fighter?

    Glen Johnson.

They have nearly identical KO records. Both have 40 odd wins with 32 KO's a piece, exactly.

Much as I'd prefer to see Jones win, it's troubling.

I don't know if Roy's become more capable since 2004 when he fought and lost to Johnson... He is a few years older than Calzaghe and definitely has more wear and tear than Cal.

    Thoughts?

    Calzaghe: UD. right now.

Prime-for-prime: Jones wins, but Calzaghe would it a darn bit more competitive than Hopkins did, for sure. I really like both fighter and will be rooting for Calza, I think Jones is just there for the big final payday, though and woukd prefer Calzaghe taking on a Pavlik or somebody else like Froch.

I honestly think that Jones will be a lot more up for this fight than he was for the Johnson fight. He should be sharper and certainly more active.
Also, when Jones fought Johnson, Johnson was putting a lot into his punches.
Calzaghe hasn't been doing that much as of late. Overall KO ratio's don't mean as much as the fact that 6 of Calzaghe's last 7 fights have gone the distance, and the one that didn't was the ridiculous stoppage against Manfredo.
With that said, i still favor Calzaghe to win mainly based on workrate. But i don't count Jones out and i don't think he'll be KO'ed.

I am a Jones fan, and Roy has much to gain in this fight and nothing to lose. Will he win? Probably not. If he does though, it greatly improves his legacy... I don't think it will be anything like the Johnson fight, could happen but I do think Roy has improved somewhat since then. I also think Johnson tired Jones out a lot by putting weight on him and keeping him up against the ropes and really don't think Roy had any idea that would happen, Roy probably thought his punches would make Glen back up eventually. Joe isn't quite that type of fighter, and Jones still has the handspeed and the boxing intelligence to trouble Joe, if Roy can find a way to box all 12 rounds................

Yep..... Alot of people forget Roy thought Johnson would be a tune up fight and totally under estimated the fight he would bring. It was too soon after the Tarver knockout, and his mind for sure was not in that fight.

I like how no one commented on the actual post and just went off onto tangents.

    Yup, I'm in General!

doesnt bother me one bit, he is still a big name in the sport, and Calzaghe picked him as his last fight, and I am happy he did. I have been waiting for this fight forever, and im happy it is happening now
