I would just like to say this everyone, as i feel bad! Here's the background to the provocation of me posting this; When i was growing up, or getting to my teens, Calzaghe was gaining popularity, i was a fan, have always followed him, although as i got more into boxing i was just following him in general, i still LIKED Joe. I know people have a gripe with him (and they can justify it i know) about his not travelling, and that's okay. Anyway, i thought Hopkins beat him and lately ive been thinking Roy may do so literally. Ive been thinking along the lines of Roy dont have the legs anymore, but he sure has the hands, if Joe is well ahead and moves in to close it, he can get caught big. The thing thats annoying me is that, ive just sort of admitted to myself that i was actually wanting that Jones victory scenario to play out. Its like this thinking came off the back of me thinking Hopkins beat him, and in some rounds, schooled him. Pretty pathetic i know But anyway, i like Roy's new attitude, it seems like he is more genuine now. But at the end of the day, ive always liked Calzaghe in years gone by. I know, i know that people will call him a foney in a certain regard, and that he should have forced his career moreso in his prime, but **** THAT, this is an apology to Calzage, i have nothin against Roy, but Im in Joe's corner for saturday. This thread has also been provoked by some arseholes i know wanting Roy to win!! Its a matter of principle, I wont turn my back, come on Calzaghe! How many people are thinking 'psycho'!!
Its just that i dont post in the general, people who know me will vouch for this. Its not a ig thing, im no fanboy, just wanted to express that somewhere where it doesnt get taken stupidly.
Calzaghe's super middleweight legacy is on the line. Both fighters are seen to be past their best, but Roy is seen by many as "shot." Roy Jones is seen by some to be the best ever at 168, mainly due to his victory over James Toney. I realize this fight is taking place above 168; but if Calzaghe loses to an old Roy Jones, imagine how people would perceive his chances against a young Jones of any size.
Jones' only chance would to be catch Calzaghe early like hopkins did. But Jones must finish the job. With the work rate that Calzaghe has & Jones' weak legs. If it goes past ten, Jones is dead meat.
Roy loses the first couple of rounds while he's still warming up, then starts meeting Joe with right crosses and combinations, wearing him down and finishing him in mid-rounds. Absurd as it is, but this is my prediction for this fight.
I'm sure we all have conflicting opinions about certain fighters teeto. It's good that you're backing Joe on principle, but if Roy does pull the upset, you probably won't be too distraught about it. By the way, Joe either stops him late or 9-3's Jones. I can't see a Jones knockout. Calzaghe's chin is too good. Don't let the flash knockdown of Hopkins fool you. He got battered in the final few rounds against Kessler and went nowhere. A fossilised Jones doesn't hit harder than Kessler.
If the fight unfolds this way, it will be a long shot. Jones has never been in a classic ring war. In fact, he has never come back from behind to win. IMO, Jones does not like / is not confident about taking a punch. Jones has patterned his style, tendencies, and attack around superior speed, power and skills, so he does not have to get hit. For a great fighter, Jones has a suspect chin. I think fans might be surprised to see that Clazaghe will look bigger in the ring. Jones is about 5'9" 1/2.
Thanks for the reply SS. Yeah, im not gunna be distraught if Jones does it, i think the only time i actually can get even close to that over a fighter is when i see Tyson fighting how he does these days. But thats a completely different topic. Calzaghe has a good chin i agree, B-Hop caught him off guard with a clever one, a man get go down from such a punch.
