I actually want to see this bout against these 2 older legends. Sure Jones got KOd by a shot that didnt look too hard, but I think it could be different against Hopkins. Hopkins even at his age hasnt significantly dipped in form due to the great care he takes of himself and due to his extreme preparation, and whilst Jones has dropped in form im not so sure its a big mismatch. Hopkins only noticable win against someone as big or bigger than him was against Tarver. What other top LHW has he beaten? Jones also recently hasnt had a win against a genuine LHW, but has in general fought bigger men than Hopkins of late (yes they both fought Calzaghe) but Hopkins hasnt done as well in his career against fast 2 handed fighters his own size ie Jones, Taylor & Calzaghe and I think due to Jones and Hopkins respective size I think Jones may well outpoint Hopkins. What you think?
I think Hopkins knocks Jones out any time he wants, from 1-12. This fight is a mismatch of epic proportions. One guy is P4P top 5, the other is shot and irrelevant. It's like Pacquiao fighting Castillo.
The only way this fight could interest me is if they put Bute on the undercard. Just saying... you know since it's suppose to be on April 17th. The night Bute was suppose to fight on HBO.
This. Roy Jones has ruined his career. I know you judge a fighter by their prime, but seriously though, it bothers me. He has completely left an entirely different impression upon the minds of people now. Time for him to get brutally KO'd by a man he won a unanimous decision against with a broken right hand. What a sad ending this will be for him.
Good call. Bute on the undercard against someone of note, maybe being in America a defence against A Green. Bute another good SMW from Europe (fighting out of Canada) But I still think Jones - Hopkins has some intrigue (at least to me anyway)
I have to laugh a little at all the backlash this fight is getting. Sure, of course in the whole scheme of things it's utterly meaningless. But these guys are 40-something multi-millionaires (and not by accident), they could care less about what this fight means to boxing, it's about what the fight means to them (meaning their ego's and their bank accounts). And you know what? They've both earned the right to have those sort of fights through the decades of hard work and magnificent talent they've brought to the game.
I hope Jones doesn't go the distance. He if does, then there is a possibility he will seem still marketable. Then there could be a chance that he would be put in another situation to get seriously hurt.
lol i think its quite funny actually, the critism that calzaghe got for fighting Jones probably wont happen to the same extent because its bhop
Thats probably true, but the excuse will be Hopkins age, but if The Ring mag rate Hopkins in the top 3 LHWs even though the only name LHW he has beaten was A Tarver back in 06, then he to should take the same critism. But I dont think its a big mismatch seeing as Hopkins seems to struggle with faster fighters his own size
