Depending on who wins it seems the loser will be declared shot even though they wouldnt be IMO.

My question is whose victory will be better for calzaghes legacy?

That. Only because some people thought Calzaghe lost to Hopkins. I think Hopkins beats Jones - this isn't the 90s.

They're both shot, but Jones is more so. This fight will be awful.

funny how Calzaghe needs to ride the coattails of guys he beat to define his legacy

just shows how weak of an ATG he is

    :rofl:rofl:rofl in the UK maybe

just 3-4 fighters need to come out and establish themselves as ATGs and Calzaghe gets picked off any respectable 100 ATG list.

These "How will X affect Calzaghe's legacy" threads are pathetic...

Hopkins shot? There isnt a fighter in the world who can KO him from 168-190. I wouldnt call that shot. His reflexes and speed for his age are great. His stamina is great too. The only issue he has, which he has had for the last 5-6 years is punch output.

How is punch output not related to stamina? Any fighter that will work him enough will have him completely gassed for the second half of the fight. It doesn't matter how effective you are, if you make him work a lot the fight is yours.

It is not related to stamina because we have never seen him gassed or tired at the end of a fight. He is a bit gunshy and doesnt take risks. But he is 45 and fighting 12 rounders with no problems.

And it isnt so simple as just trying to outwork him. Pavlik was supposed to do that and he got his ass kicked. I was picking pavlik to win based on activity but I was wrong. Hopkins speed and reflexes are still good and the Pavlik fight showed he can be active all 12 rounds.

Shot fighters get dominated or knocked out. Hopkins has been fighting Taylor, Winky, Tarver, Calzaghe, Pavlik and not one has been able to dominate him or hurt him one bit. That is not shot.

In his last four fights, Hopkins has completely dominated the ring magazine champion at LHW after moving up two weight divisions to fight him, dominated a fighter who the Ring had in the P4P top five at the time and embarassed the linear MW champion who most people had top six P4P at the time (although wrongly imo).

How the hell does that constitute 'shot'?

It's called boxing, not "how many times can you raise your hand to the general vicinity of your opponent's face to win a boxing match"

Hopkins/Jones has no implications on Joe's career because we will all agree he is the most overrated "boxer" of all time.
