I actually seen him using that overhand chopping right a lot more than the left hook for some reason. But that was back in the day when he could land it. He was second best 168 pounder in the world at one point and that was legit but he is a shell of that fighter now.
Right but it wasnt effective. Hes friggen David Tua in a super middleweight body. One dimensional. His money punch was always the hook. Calzahge had a good win over him, but Calzahge was always a good fighter, he just never tested his skills. Lacy was never that great just ask his sparring partner Winky Wright.
I came in here thinking to see a dumb post about RJJ has no more punch resistance or has a glass chin but glad I didnt. Good points, I am not believing the fight is winnable for Lacy.
Lacy wins this. These guys both throw lots of hooks. The best way to avoid a hook is to duck. The shorter man (Lacy) has an advantage because it's easier to duck if you are shorter. Also, Lacy has better stamina at this point. Roy is an old man and may not be able to keep up 12 rounds with Lacy stalking him.
This is the guy Lacy fought in April and was lucky to get the win. Otis Griffin: http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=274189&cat=boxer 31 years old, 19-6-2, knocked out 5 times, knocked out in the 2nd round last month and a KO% 25.93. Roy Jones of 2009 would have knocked this guy out make no mistake about it. Lacy has slipped so much from what he used to be.
Tarver is a counter puncher, Roy was forced to lead against him and thats why he did horribly. Lacy will come to Roy with a very limited arsenal of punches. Also I dont know if you ever seen these fighters in person, but Tarver is a huge guy very lanky. Lacy is short. Roy is not a big guy either.
So has Jones. If Lacy can hit him cleanly he can obviosuly knock him out. I think both guys should retire, but Jones has more at stake tarnishing up his legacy. Its becoming hard to remember how good he once was. Its like watching Holyfield now, you cant believe how great he used to be watching him now.
3 years ago I would have given lacey a shot, but now no. Lacy is just slow enough off the trigger to where Rjj can slip in shots. Midway through Lacy career he decided to become a slugger, and ever since that decision he stands and takes way too many shots. Rjj by shut out.
I hear what your saying but lets take a look at the first Tarver fight and the Johnson fight, when Tarver pressured Jones and worked him on the ropes he would score good body shots and every now and then up top. Look at Johnsons style, this is something that Lacy can do, he can pressure jones like that and make it that kind of fight, if he does this I give him a very good shot at winning big.
I didnt think it was a gift it was a close fight could have gone either way, alot of times fighters like this who are expected to lose but perform better than we expected, they tend to win the hearts of the fans meaning we tend to give them more credit than whats actually due.
Not a gift close. Jeff was beating him early on i think this is the fight he hurt his shoulder because he was near enough one handed after the 3rd or 4th
Jones is going to get him. Lacy's power has been shot since that shoulder injury vs Tsypko, which is devastating for a guy who's left hook was so important to his gameplan that he was nicknamed for it. Jones, on the other hand, still has enough to be competitive with or beat a number of top 10-ish light heavyweights.
IMO the speed only matters if Roy uses it the right way, not one shot at a time that will not get it done, he is going to have to put out, I am not sleeping on Lacy, Jones has gotten older since we knew he got old, though Lacy has slipped, Age is always a factor in this game.
good post:good honestly as was said earlier i'm really surprised and happy to read this thread and all the informed posts within. except for rico, everyone seems to be backing what they are saying and has differing, but intelligent opinions personally, i fear for roy not because lacy is any good but because he is a solid ****ing tank. say what you will but he can take a punch. roy's gonna need his legs because he'll be able to precision punch lacy to pieces but he'll keep coming. even on the rope's, roy will be able to land as lacy is very wide and sloppy and one of the few fighters out there that roy can still slip punches in on between flurries. roy will out punch him but after so many rounds of constant pressure, where will his legs be? other than that, i don't see lacy standing much of a chance of a points victory and he doesn't have the accuracy to hurt roy. thank God he isn't fighting adamek...
