Id give a PRime roy like he was with ruiz a really good chance at beating vitali after the klitschko fight. ROy gets underrated now due to his losses after tarver, but that could have been a good fight.
not serious at all. Lewis a Giant. Roy was average size man. Roy would have had to go 12 rounds with lewis 1 right hand and this is the end
IMO it isn't that much of a mismatch. Roy didn't always have a glass chin - that came from dropping 20lb+ after the Ruiz fight. I'm not saying he wins but I don't think the fight is ridiculous, particularly with the way Lewis looked.
Even now...people are talking absolute madness. Look. Jones is 5'11. Vitali is 6'7. One right had and it's over...the size disparity is of epic proportions.
I think the way people are still entertaining the idea of this fight ever being remotely competitive serves as a testament to how overrated Jones is.
Absolutely ****ing insane. Whoever would think Roy would even make it out of the ring should be banned from watching boxing.
Plus Michael Spinks was sporting a Heavyweight frame at 6'2, sometimes even being listed as 6'3. He was a bigger man than Roy Jones, and would have his hands held up high when under attack. Jones relied on his reflexes to avoid shots, and maneuver himself around the ring. Holmes was not the puncher Lewis was either. Jones would have been more competitive with an old Holmes, Lewis just devastates him. As does as Donovan Ruddock.
yes height might be a huge factor in the match, But height doesn't always matter, look what Chris Byrd did to the Klit brother and he's only 6'0" Vitali isn't that good at all, he's beat NOBODIES (not really his fault, but he as at some fault to blame). I'd give Jones a great chance at beating him, i'm not saying for sure but i think he could. If Byrd could do it Jones can.
I'm on the Jones is/was overrated train too. And I don't think that he could win the fight either. But I just don't think it would be a shut out or that he would unequivocably get knocked out. I concede that it is a distinct possibility but that is all.
This. Let's also not forget the 5'10 James Toney has successfully campaigned as a heavyweight also. I don't know if RJJ beats the Klits or Lewis. But the notion that RJJ couldn't compete with Lennox or the Klits if RJJ continued to take his campaigning as a HW seriously was not as widespread as some of you want to believe.
Well, RJJ would have had a better chance IMO with a bigger Vitali than Lewis, because Vitali KO's guys with accumulation punching, whereas Lewis could blow guys away with 1 punch, had a bigger arsenal of punches, and was an excellent finisher if he hurt someone.
You think Jones can go the 12 without getting by a right hand...because I think that's all it would take. I'm not intentionally trying to discredit Jones as a fighter here, but we have to put this into perspective. Lennox Lewis beats a lot of the greatest Heavyweights of all time. He's a Super Heavyweight standing at 6'5, had intense power in his right hand, and a lot of boxing skills to accompany his knockout credentials. Jones has a hard time taking a full blooded shot from a Michael Spinks and Bob Foster let alone a Lennox Lewis.
