Jones vs Sonnen, or scrap the entire card. Which would you have preferred?

A lot of people hate the **** out of Chael and don't want to see him employed at all, let alone moving up in weight for an immediate title shot after coming off a devastating loss.

Others would rather see a Jones vs Sonnen main event, rather than have an entire card binned a week before fight night.

Personally, I'd rather see Sonnen in the main event. Obviously he doesn't deserve the fight, stands no chance and would have gotten his ass brutally kicked. But at least that way everyone else involved in the card gets a fight and a payday to go with it.

What would have been better in your opinion? Jones vs Sonnen next weekend, or no card at all? :think

Vote. Poll is multiple choice. :good

This isn't announcing the news, buddy. This is a poll asking the forum a question about what they would have preferred to have happened in the aftermath of the cancellation. :good

Jones vs Sonnen infinitely better than no card at all IMO. Jones would've won so quickly and easily that he'd have been able to fight Machida and/or Hendo shortly anyway.

Uh, obviously everyone would have preferred the first option.

If any fighter generates strong enough dislike that fans would prefer to see an entire card scrapped rather than see him get a title shot while coming off a loss, it's Chael. :good

Yes, on reflection you are right. :good

It's unprecedented to have one development generate more than one thread. Plus, this thread and the cancellation announcement thread are in fact identical. And there are too many threads in this subforum anyway, this thread will cause some other one to drop off the first page before people get a chance to see it or comment on it. :-(

Sorry, Stoo. From now on I'll make sure to pm you before I post, to clear it with you. Just so that I can rest easy knowing that you have given me your permission to make a comment or ask a question. :good

With all the hate for Sonnen in here, I really doubt that 100% of posters here would support him moving up in weight and getting an immediate title shot after coming off a stoppage loss.

The most hated fighter on this forum in another title fight straight after a TKO loss. Or the cancellation of a card with Jones vs Sonnen as the main event and no other marquee matchups on the bill. In a time where a common complaint is that the UFC runs too many events. I'm sure that at least a few would rather the card be cancelled than see an out-of-shape Sonnen fighting for the title in effectively his first fight at 205.

I would be one of those people. But, I would still take it over no card at all.

Three of the most common complaints on this forum are: "UFC runs too many cards", "Certain guys are favoured sons and get too many bites at the cherry" and "**** Chael Sonnen, guy needs to shut up and disappear." :yep

Combine those three complaints, and it stands to reason that at least some would prefer a card with no notable undercard matchups was scrapped entirely, rather than see Jones vs Sonnen for the belt. :good
