here's the thing though...all 3 fights showed that when Jones was unloading or was able to fire, Tarver had nothing to reply with...a prime Jones wouldn't have been gun shy, wouldn't have been fatigued, and (IMO) hit harder.

Jones could have put tarver out in their 3rd fight though. Tarver was hurt in the mid rounds and ready to go down, Jones was just to hesitant to go after him hard. Its too bad, jones could have wrapped that series up and retired as he should have.

I had them even after the 10th round. I had Roy winning by 2 rounds because he won the last 2 rounds on my card. It was a close and competitive fight and people were shocked at the time to see Jones Jr actually facing an opponent who looked like he could beat him.

Tarver threw the fight away in my opinion. There were rounds where he did nothing at all and just gave away rounds he could have easily won the fight had he simply been more active.

Tarver isn't a great fighter as he was simply too inconsistent during his reign but style wise he was very problematic for Jones Jr. Roy wasn't invincible just look at the first Griffin fight to see prime Roy struggling. Tarver used very similar tactics to Griffin, while in the centre of the ring remain defensively tight use feints and jabs to back Roy to the ropes where he is vulnerable and then work him over. The big difference between Tarver and Griffin though is Tarver had the chin to withstand Roy's best shots when he got aggressive and the power to KO Roy when Roy is forced to trade which is was because against Tarver and Griffin he was forced to be more aggressive than he liked. So when he tried to employ more aggressive tactics in the 2nd Tarver fight much like in the rematch with Griffin he got KO'ed instead because he was now playing into Tarver's counter punching style.

Roy wasn't 100% for the first Tarver fight though. As soon as I saw him in the ring before the bell rung for the 1st round I thought he looked older than before and his body didn't look the same after dropping the weight. He wasn't shot yet but he wasn't 100%.

Finally grew enough balls to come back after the humiliation?

Why don't you go back to your hole? it only seems you come out every once in a while to say something negative about Jones and insult posters..:yep

How many fighters can you name that fought at HW, dropped down and beat the top LHW in his very next fight?

    Please, do tell.

Good competitive fight . Despite Tarver feeling robbed and fans booing Roy . 2 out of 3 judges got it right . Roy won the fight .

The crowd was definitely caught up in the drama of seeing Roy in serious trouble for the first time..

I don't understand Antonio's disbelief though.. Throughout the whole fight McGirt was yelling at him in the corner for just standing there in the center of the ring too much.. Surely he knew he was losing a lot of those rounds.. Even before the last round, McGirt expressed how much Tarver needed that round, again he didn't do much.

I thought it was an easy fight to score, the rounds for Tarver were clear, the rounds for Jones were clear.. I had it a bit closer than the judges that scored it for Jones, but very clear.

huh? The humiliation? I've never been close to being humiliated on this forum. However, after your recent humiliations, you've yet again humiliated yourself and reminded everyone you haven't got a clue about boxing by claiming Jones-Tarver 1 was an ATG win . I guess some folks are just too dumb to learn.

It was an ATG win when you factor in all the circumstances and variables Roy Jones overcame, of course opinions also matter as there is no offical great win checklist..

So being a passionate Roy hater like youself, your remarks are pretty much null and void here.. As I don't see any knowledgeable and subjective posters strongly disagreeing with me in this thread, I will take your ridicule lightly, as I always do.:hi:

You could ask the same of the OP, though Jones clearly won that fight, he acts like Tarver did nothing of note.

Just out of interest do you consider yourself to be a passionate Jones fanboy?

I only ask because clearly others do, and it would appear, with good reason.

Taver was a big southpaw that presented big stylistic problems for Roy Jones.. He beat Roy up against the ropes like we had never seen.

    Roy is my favorite fighter..

Passionate fanboy? well I am not sure I would call it that.. I don't think I am delusional about him, and I try to be as unbiased as possible. I certainly don't agree with all of his remarks, career choices, or life choices.

He is simply my favorite fighter to watch, nothing more, nothing less.
