Jones wants Calzaghe for this reason:

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by MasterCalzaghe, Apr 24, 2008.

  1. This fight may well come off & I really think Jones is serious about making this happen and here's why:

Calzaghe's scalp means more to Jones than just another name on his resume simply because of what it represents in the grander scheme of things. Jones' thinking is that if he beats Joe he also beats Hopkins in their theoretical rematch because he will have beaten the man who beat the man.
Coincidently this was Hopkins thinking for the Tarver fight; if he couldn't get Jones in the ring beat the man that beat him - and it worked for Hopkins just look at the sudden respect he gained after losing to Taylor then crippling Tarver.

Mark my words, Jones wants Joe's scalp for what it represents and he will do what he can to make this fight happen. Tarver doesn't give a **** about Jones anymore and Hopkins is just as bad as him when it comes to negotiating because of their egos therefore this fight is Jones' sole path to redemption. It will come off, money is not the factor here.:deal

    Thoughts?

It's always valid to goto the top man. Two flies with one stone and all that. It would also theorectically make him the king of SMW once again.

Actually Jones just said he would fight Tarver just last week. But Calzaghe is considered the man right now. He said he would fight either fighter.

Jones wants to fight Calzaghe because he feels he can beat Joe. Plain and simple, there's nothing else to it ...

Good thread and a valid post. Even at this stage of his career RJJ is better than the rest of the Light Heavyweight division. JC and RJJ meeting up would give us a chance to see the two best guys going at at.

At this stage Roy can't beat Joe, he'd have to fight for 3 mins a round and he's not able to do so anymore.

Right....so we should just take your word for it. A fighter says he wants one thing, you say he doesn't and your logic is that he's lying because you say so?

I don't get why people say at this stage in his career ... what stage is that?

Jones is coming back to championship form, he might not be the same fighter he was 10 yrs ago, but no man on earth can defeat father time.

Yeah Roy lost and he lost by knockout ... but thats apart of the game and i'm sure that Joe would have his hands full with Johnson and Tarver.

He beat Hopkins and it was a good victory to put on his resume, but he's nothing special at this point in his career.

Roy will put up a great fight and do a better job than Hopkins, considering that he's faster ... his punch output is far superior than Hopkins and his footspeed is definitely a cut above.

It would be a great fight and I don't expect Joe to blow Roy away.
