Androstenedione is NOT an ANABOLIC steroid This "specimen A" is NOT androstenedione if it is an ANABOLIC steroid I've taken 2 semesters of pharmacology and I can practically draw most of these steroid structures from memory. So unless the ***gots from the IBF commission consulted licensed physicians, pharmacists, pharmacologists or medicinal chemists I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about. Either he tested positive for something other than androstenedione, which is an endogenous steroid hormone that is a precursor for the various sex hormones of the body, or these idiots don't know what an anabolic steroid is. Androstenedione, a sex hormone precursor, cannot be used to build muscle mass like a synthetic anabolic steroid which is over 100 times more potent and efficacious than testosterone. If you want to know what an anabolic steroid is then take a look at stanozolol, the substance that James Toney used. The very fact that androstenedione is produced naturally by the body refutes the notion that it could be an anabolic steroid ... all anabolics are SYNTHETIC. My guess is the commission hastily went forward and called it an anabolic without proper knowledge of what exactly he was taking.
By the way, when the positive test first popped up his camp tried to blame a nasal congestion spray. I guess they realised that wasn't the best excuse, so three weeks later his legal team came up with the ripped fuel excuse. What's funny is these people saying that Jones tested positive for Androstenedione, when in actual fact Androstenedione disappears from the system within hours and is almost impossible to detect in a drugs test. Unless you think Jones was taking a fat burning supplement hours before a professional fight? So, we have the commissioner of Indiana's boxing saying it was steroids and not andro, we have the IBF saying it was anabolic steroids and not andro, and we have peer reviewed medical resources saying that andro wouldn't show up on a drugs test . . . yet we have people genuinely trying to tell us that he tested positive for andro because it was mentioned in one article on ESPN. Hmmmmm . . . it's tough to know where to stand on this one.
Which is what we've been saying for about 10 ****ing pages. The only source for the androstenedione thing is one ESPN article. The reliable sources (two different boxing Indiana boxing commissioners and the IBF) say that he tested positive for an anabolic steroid. All that's happening here is people don't want to accept that Jones took steroids so they're latching to something that was reported in one ESPN article with no source provided. Jones' camp first tried blaming nasal spray, then his attorney obviously did some research and blamed an over the counter supplement that contained andro. That's where the story comes from.
OK then he tested positive for something other than androstenedione if what you are claiming is true. Androstenedione is the only name that has come up and they have virtually no way of testing for most of the designer formulations. And no steroid nasal spray like fluticasone would ever show up. Why is androstenedione the only name that has surfaced? They revealed what Toney was taking, so why not what Roy was taking?
Sorry mate, I don't mean to be a dick - I guess our wires just got cross. I'm sure you really know your ****. I think we were basically arguing the same thing. It's just one of the cases where an athlete throws up a positive test and then comes up with an excuse to blame a supplement they used. His fanboys are now latching on to that to try and prove he's not a cheat. From what I can tell from interviews with the commission, Indiana was rare in that it carried out drug tests at the time. They informed the IBF that Jones and Hall had tested positive for anabolic steroids, hence the letter above, but there was a real air of indifference from the organisations at the time, Jones made a small donation and nothing more happened about it. After blaming nasal spray Jones' camp then blamed the ripped fuel stuff, which I guess is where the andro line comes from.
I'm not even saying that man . I'm just saying that ALL the official sources say that he took anabolic steroids and the 'over the counter supplement stories; that some of his fans are latching on to come out of Roy's camp. As KidJackal has confirmed, the substance his fans are saying IS not an anabolic steroid and would not show up as such on a drugs test. Basically his fanboys are clutching at straws.

Well I was going off of this: http://www.udel.edu/chem/C465/senior/fall00/Performance1/andro.htm.html#drug
goddamn this is getting old. first off, jones' people said nothing about andro, just ripped fuel. if you have proof of this "press release" please show us. most importantly here is a source straight from WADA categorizing andro as an anabolic steroid. it's right at the top of the ****ing list. http://list.wada-ama.org/list/s1-anabolic-agents/#4-androstenediol%20%28androst-4-ene-3%CE%B2%2C17%CE%B2-diol%29 i'm sure now WADA is lying in your opinion, or some **** like that. class has been dismissed.
