    Ladies/Gents,

I am sure that you are aware that Jonjo Finnegan sustained a significant injury during his contest against Ryan Clark at Burton on Friday 27th July 2012 and that he remains in hospital having undergone surgery. He is still being cared for at the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham in the High Depensity Unit having recently been transferred from the Intensive Care Unit. Whilst his condition is still extremely serious he is making some small progress, however, it is clearly going to be a long and difficult path towards recovery.

The financial and emotional strains on this young family is considerable, the bills are still arriving and there is no money coming into the household. Jonjo is the main bread winner. He is married and has two small daughters aged just 7 and 4 years. The Board and Area Council have already made a contribution to try and offset the immediate problems but any other contribution would be gratefully received. In addition, the family are trying to organise a number of fund raising events a number of which are detailed below. If anyone can support these events it would be of tremendous help to the family.

Newhall United Football Club 1:00pm Sunday 19th August 2012 - Football match featuring 8 teams of 11 a side 20 minutes each way, (Quarter finals, semi finals then final). £5 per player, £2 spectator.

Shobnall Sports & Social Club 7:30pm Friday 24th August 2012 - Disco & Charity Raffle.

    Burton Amateur Boxing Club 2pm - 4pm Sunday 26th August 2012 - Amateur Exhibition event. £5.00 entry.

Newhall Social Club 12:00midday -5:00pm Saturday 15th September 2012. Various Events including children's activities.

Chester Marathon 9am Sunday 7th October 2012 - Suzanne Potts Sponsored Marathon.

Professional Boxing Dinner Event (Errol Johnson) Burton Albion FC. Date to be decided late October.

Eaton Hotel, Birmingham 6pm Saturday 1st December 2012 - Midlands Area Awards/Xmas Dinner. £40.00 ticket.

Jonjo's mother Gillian Finnegan is currently overseeing the fund raising and is in the process of opening an account specifically to assist the family. In the interim period any contributions in the form of cheque(s) should be made payable to 'G. Finnegan' and posted to Les Potts, British Boxing Board of Control Ltd, Moathouse, Haughton, Staffs, ST18 9HR or alternatively paid direct into any Lloyds TSB Branch or via bank transfer to:-

How about setting up a Just Give account for some of the events? Takes Paypal and makes it a lot easier for people to donate?

Read the first post. How much do you reckon Jonjo is earning to support his family at the moment?

While he's in a bad way his family are relying on money in the bank (if they have saved for a rainy day) and scraps, the kindness of others even a small amount may make a massive help to his family while he's on the mend.

I agree with Gaz that would be a lot easier for people, I'm happy to donate either way.

Hopefully they will set up a JustGive account, but for the time being cheques and direct bank transfers are the only payment methods during the interim period.

Hold on second, JJ got stopped by Clark a few months previously, pride took over and look what happened! Of course it's awful, but some people don't learn. He had his last purse for starters, if he had a job then they should give him some sick pay! If not, the government will! It's called Incapacity Benefit. My advice is this (and you won't like it); Don't get married and have two kids and then keep going to box, knowing you ain't good enough to earn a crust.

People get killed, injured, scarred, abused etc ...on a daily basis just going about their normal business (that doesn't entail fighting)!

Mate, come on, now's not the time or place for that. He should have done this, he should have done that... Bottom line is, he's a fighting man, it's in his blood, he enjoys it. Currently he's hurt, it's too easy to say he could've said no to the fight, his 'pride' got in the way, but it's not going to make him better now is it?

Let's rally round and support the guy. Boxing is a niche sport nowadays. We need to pull together as a boxing community. I personally will be sending a cheque.

Whether or not you agree with his life decisions of having children and continuing to pursue the sport he loves is irrelevant. He's part of the sport we love and if we criticise him for his involvement we're nothing better than hypocrites.
