Jordan Desborough Looking To Fulfil His Potential; Seeking Finish Against Newton

This weekend, Jordan Desborough (2-1) will partake in the biggest fight of his fledgling career to date, as he takes on IFC Stockport's Eden Newton (5-3) with the aim of raising the War in Workington Lightweight strap. The Cumbrian is really looking forward to this test.

A couple of quotes from the 18-year old:

"I'm very excited for this fight," he enthused. "Since my last fight, I've changed a lot of things. I'm coming into this fight in the best shape of my life and very determined to get a win here and take the title.

"It's a motivating fight as Eden is also the Lightweight Champion on one of the best shows in the UK, the UCC, so this fight is a good stepping stone to get back on track against a well respected and well known opponent."

Indeed, in his last outing, Desborough fell short to Brendan Loughnane, losing in the second round by TKO. Despite his foe being well regarded and a touted prospect in his own right, Jordan reckons he was the master of his own demise in that bout.

"The fight with Brendan was a interesting one," began the 18-year old. "I feel bad saying it, but I went into that fight with about 50% fitness through pure lazyness and cockyness. I still gave Brendan a good fight, but then the positives that have come out of that is I'll never do that again, my body has changed totally, I'm lifting weights and have packed on muscle to make sure I've got the cardio to push a 15 minute fight from the opening bell.

"My mindset has changed," he flowed. "I now realise that I want to make a name in this sport and the only way to do that is to put the time in in training and work hard. I'm more dedicated and actually in shape for once!

"The loss was the best thing that could of happened, it's motivating, I'm only 18-years old. I've got wins over a very tough guy in Carl Fawcett and the very experienced Malli Richardson, and gave Brendan Loughnane a good fight when I was totally out of shape. I'm definately one to watch out for, and this fight is going to prove that."
