Jorge "Travieso" Arce was world champion at 19, had a excellent reign at Light Flyweight, an 'interim' reign at Flyweight producing that incredible fight vs. Hussein Hussein and a short run at Super Flyweight before losing bad to Cristian Mijares and we thought it might be it for him at his late 20s. Arce however won 5 in a row and picked up an interim title before challenging Vic Darchinyan for the undisputed championship, but got beat even worse, and lost shortly to Simphiwe Nongqayi as well, so it definitely seemed like the end for a long and succesful career. Arce however has a great 2010, finally picked up a SFW belt (WBO) vs. Angky Angkota, moved up to bantamweight (actually 120lbs) and blew out the famed Martin Castillo in one, and once again moves up to fight former flyweight champ Lorenzo Parra (31-2) in a WBO eliminator to challenge Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. Arce initially wanted to face Eric Morel at 118 but after that fight fell through, his management made the Parra fight at Travieso's FIFTH division which is incredible. Arce is still just 31 but has several wars behind him and is preparing for fight no. 63. Incredible!
Considering other mexicans quest for to be the first 4 weight champ would people say Arce has 2 or 3 weights? One title was only interim but he defended it 5 times. Does this count?
Yeah, but Parra is toast, like Castillo. Arce is toast too, but not as toasty as Parra or Castillo. Arce is clearly a LOT slower than he was in his prime, and he's no bantamweight. I wouldn't be surprised if he loses this one, and I'd be shocked if he beats Vazquez.
