[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Jorge Arce said Sunday morning that he plans to head for Miami where he and his family have reservations on a cruise ship which will travel throughout the Carribean. “First stop is Puerto Rico where I hope to see my good friends Miguel Cotto and Ivan Calderon,” said Arce. After the fight Saturday, Arce, 29, was taken to a local hospital for observation, then released. On Sunday morning Arce was in his room at the Ayres Hotel in Anaheim. He said he has the usual “aches and pains from a fight” but added he was physically all right. “I really wanted to go all 12 rounds,” Arce said about his title fight against champion Victor Darchinyan at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Saturday night. Arce said he plans to continue fighting “….at least one more time.”

Good for him going on vacation but it's sad that he actually considers retirement.

I do not know much about Arce. He is only 29? Why is he retiring?

ARCE RUSHED TO HOSPITAL AFTER KNOCKOUT DEFEAT TO DARCHINYAN

    By Adam Ramirez
    FightNetBoxing.com

ANAHEIM- Challenger Jorge Arce was rushed to the hospital Saturday about an hour after taking a beating from WBA, WBC and IBF junior bantamweight champ Vic Darchinyan at the Honda Center.

In a bizarre scene, Arce was treated by EMT staff in the Honda Center press room while a handful of reporters wrote copy on deadline.

EMT staff were concerned about Arce's blood pressure, which was fluctuating from high to low. Arce initially insisted he was fine to walk to the ambulance; however, after he admitted to being unbalanced, he got on the gurney and started breathing from an oxygen mask.

The EMT cleared the hallway so that he could have some privacy, and he was wheeled onto the ambulance away from the press conference, which was happening at the same time.

Arce had a glassy look in his eye during the verbal exchange with the EMT.

"Ask him where he hurts," an Anaheim EMT asked.

"Behind my ear and my right eye here," Arce said through the oxygen mask. Arce had complained during the fight about being struck behind his ear.

The scene happened while reporters typed away on their computers. While he was being wheeled to the ambulance, a promoter asked him if he could sign for his paycheck.

It was a stark reminder how championship boxers have to endure so much to earn a living. More to come on this breaking story.

He is an 'old' 29 year old. Those ring wars made him older that juan manuel marquez who is a 'young' 35 year old.

True. Arce uses his durability as his main weapon in every fight. He weathers punches to deliver his own. He was old years ago - evident in his recent fights.

Arce is a badass. Not a great boxer, but a great character and a scrappy fighter. I hope he retires to life on Mexican TV and plenty of senoritas.

and people think the ref was wrong not to let him go out for the 12th rd. he got bashed for 11 rds and was only just saved by the bell in the 11th, so it was the best decision for his health.

nobody wants to see a repeat of burgos surely.

Retirement is a smart choice buddy . . . he has received too many punishments in his boxing career due to his fighting style.

He should enjoy life and spend time with his family while he can.

arce had a better career than mijares...but mijares could still make a comeback...

i hope arce would retire...there no more left in him, perhaps even a lucky punch is no longer there for him
