Man, I.B. Just 'cause you live in a bleeding heart liberal town doesn't mean you have to be such a bleeding heart liberal yourself. Afterall, brown and now this guy, perry. Wake-up beantown, you're turning red. I.B. C'mon man. we have a justice system all over the world that says let the punishment fit the crime. Dudes have gotten stiffer sentences over marijuana possession. He killed, KILLED, somebody. **** his guilt. Judges don't sentence a man to purgatory, he gives him time. If barrios had have been driving down the road at 35 mph and some careless pedestrian jumped in front of him, we'd have a different circumstance, but barrios was driving in such a manner that death was practically inevitable. He got off lightly, and also..................What makes you think he feels such wrenching guilt anyway? That shouldn't be his punishment. He deserved much MUCH worse.
I have a bloodthirsty, hang-em-high, heart-run-dry side, believe me. If Valero, for instance, hadn't committed suicide I'd have been keeping my fingers crossed that Venezuela quickly enact the death penalty if they didn't already have it. That's the thing, though - I personally make the same distinction that the judicial system does. Killing is bad - always. Intent, however - makes it irredeemably bad (except in the most dire of circumstances like self-defense) whereas accidents do happen. Should a factory worker who pulls the wrong lever at the wrong moment and gets his buddy squashed get the same jail time as a serial killer? Of course not. Granted, that's a lot more innocent a mistake than Barrios getting behind the wheel of a vehicle while under the influence (which is a really, really shitty thing to do but still not up there with premeditated murder) but it still gets categorized on the less severe side of the line if there's no intent.
In the state I work in that's the truth. Its a misdemeanor, misdemeanors are punishable by a fine and up to 6 mos in jail. Vehicular homicide carries 6 pts on your license.
Agreed. However, while i'm not 100% sure that I remember if barrios was intoxicated, i think the article said he was just driving at high speeds which resulted in the crash. Nonetheless, it wasn't that he was out to kill, but his carelessness was intentional and anyone with half a brain knows that when they are driving wrecklessly that they are risking there own and others lives. While he doesn't deserve what valero would've gotten had he let justice be served, jorge barrios deserves to be still behind bars for his careless actions. 1 year dude. C'mon!
Yeah. I guess we're just missing some information. I would want to hear about a toxicology report or something like that. If he had a BAC through the roof and was doing speedballs before he put the keys in the ignition then yes, I would think a good deal more than a year is called for. If it was just like a spin-out on an icy road and he happened to be luckier than the people in the other car, then a year might be appropriate.
All I know is he caused the death of a PREGNANT WOMAN. Sure he didn't mean it, but if he had killed my pregnant wife, for instance, I don't give a ****, it's murder to me, ESCPECIALLY IF HE'S DRUNK. And I would never forgive him, and would probably kill him myself. I get the points on how he didn't inted to kill anyone fellas, and the justice system behind it, I'm just throwing in my point of view of if that happened to me (my preggo wife getting killed by a drunk driving Barrios). He was drunk correct?
