12 rounds. 165 pounds. Fought at neutral site, neither in Argentina or Utah! Thoughts on the outcome.
Two strong, awkward, durable brawlers. I'm betting ALL my money on this one going the distance. Castro had a number of highly credible performances and had a number of good traits, but Fullmer deserves his IBHOF plaudits, and he would demonstrate why in this fight. Over the twelve round distance you proposed, it would be a competitive fight from a round by round perspective. I would expect Castro to net two or three of the first four rounds and Fullmer would struggle to get going and figure out Castro's style. Then he might nab another stanza in the middle rounds, but Fullmer would gradually start stacking up round and damage to win by a comfortable but competitive margin. Over 15 rounds, I think it would veer towards non-competitiveness as Fullmer's stamina would allow him to pour on the punishment late.
I think Fullmer gets far too much credit for the glow he basked in. Meanwhile, Castro gets too little credit and could box clean or dirty. He was also relentless in his pursuit and had an ATG chin.
Why not 15 rounds Seamus? Anyway, Fullmer pounds on and outbrawls the power hitting Argentine to win a decision going away. Should still be envisioned as a 15 rounder. We're in our own world...not subjected to the infantile ruling of Jose Sillyman.
Fullmer got a lot of love from judges and refs on the west coast. And before you say that about Castro, he certainly beat Jackson twice and I believe also Johnson. Watch the fights rather than listen to yank whining.
I think Castro beats him on a neutral field. Fullmer gets too much love for rubbing shoulders with name fighters on the decline.
Sometimes I do. And mostly when I do I'll admit it. I think it is important to stir sh*t up at times to remember why you believe what you believe. However, this is not one of those times.
