This man has 144 fights and only lost two by knockouts. He recently ko'd only one of two men to knock him out. Jaun Carlos Gomez is only one of two to knock him out. I see early in his carrer he drew twice with the same fighter. He has two wins over Reggie Johnson and two wins over John David Jackson. One being a knockout. He split two fights with Roberto Duran. Other losses coming to champions Roy Jones, Terry Norris and Vassilly Jirov.
This man has to rate as one of the toughest to step in the ring.

Agreed - he fought Paul Briggs a few years ago, and while he is an unlikely looking fellow (pot belly, barrel chest, chicken legs) he showed himself to be a tough and dangerous hombre - he has a sneaky left jab/uppercut that he unleashes after dropping his left to his waist, and he has some speed in delivering it too.

I liked how he watched Briggs feet rather than make eye contact with hinm, or watch his shoulders when fighting him...I also liked how he refused to sit down between rounds, especially in the later rounds when Briggs rocked him several times. He's got a rocksolid chin :yep

I believe he was in a serious auto crash a few years back and still kept fighting despite that and his advanced age.

His last fight, and most likely his final fight, is nothing short of amazing. Jorge Fernando Castro looked shot against Jose Luis Herrera, losing by knockout. He then got in a life threatening car accident, and was told he might not live, let alone box again. He came back and Knocked out Herrera, and has looked to call it a day. Many questioned his comeback fight to begin with.

Castro's Resume is also nothing to sneeze at. He knocked out an undefeated John David Jackson, beat Reggie Johnson, Immau Mayfield, and hung with many big named fighters. He's always one of my favorite fighters to look at his record. He was one hell of a gatekeeper, often keeping the gate for himself.

    Very good fighter.

He spoke very highly of Paul Briggs after their fight.

He even beat former top ten LHW Derrick Harmon after that, and avenged his loss to Herrera after his car accident. :good

Castro is an underrated fighter. Looking at his resume, it's actually very impressive.

i think i remember watching him fight Vassily Jirov a few years back - he has an interesting style as i remember; kinda reminded me of how Tony Tubbs style looked in the mid 80's

He was at his best as a 154lber in the early 90s. He gave Roy Jones his first proper fight and no 154lber could stop him. When he moved up to 160lbs had an epic fight with John David Jackson turning around a fight where it looked like he might get stopped.

Never quite the same fighter after that, needing home advantage to beat Reggie Johnson and then losing to some unknown Japanese fighter. After that Castro showed he was a tough contender and you had to be for real to beat him. It is a little sad the warrior keeps going...

What a service to the sport this man has given.

One of the best chins of his era and a true legend.

At 154-168 he was in great shape, fairly quick and a formidable fighter. I think if he was fighting now he could have bagged another title easily.
At 175+ he was basically a pudgy punching bag but you could still see his class and freakish toughness in how competitive he made his fights.

Yeah, his record always amazed me. First guy to take RJJ the distance. If you asked Roy he'd confirm 100% that Castro is one tough mo'fo!

    Quote from wikipedia:

''Castro, who in 1985 was set to become a professional boxer but suffered a bicycle accident that left him injured so badly that doctors told him he'd never be able to fight as a professional, recuperated from the accident and turned professional, defying the doctor's predictions, in 1987.''

Is this guy human? He's indestructible!
