No disrespect to the Argentinean fans... but Mexico is just so close to the USA that it seems a great Mexican warrior can get more chances on the INTERNATIONAL, WORLD LEVEL than a great Argentinean warrior... But boy, if you're looking for a VERY charismatic fighter south of LW division, probably Jorge LA HIENA Barrios is your man!

He doesn't speak English but speaks Spanish and he's a really funny and bad dude with a fan friendly, powerful all-out style.

I myself think that because he couldn't get a good HBO deal a few years back, he wasted a lot of great years and boxing would've been better with him fighting on SHO or BAD regularly... His fight vs. Freitas was an instant classic, but he couldn't pull it off, and didn't get the big fights despite the great style and heart he showed...

He was back a few years later with a stunning victory over the very and I mean VERY promising young talent Mike Anchondo to get the WBO SW title, but without any step-up in championship competition or any big name, he ended up fighting the P4P15 Joan Guzman, of course to lose the title on the scales and the fight via SD...

But at 31, he's still in the SFW/LW picture, he's just fighting two opponents every time: another boxer and the weight limit... and he had some serious family and injury problems, but now he's BACK and fighting Rocky Juarez on the Mosley-Judah undercard, and I strongly believe that he will be the first to stop the powerful American - in a FOTY candidate!

Barrios is just a great all out fighter and one of the best body punchers in the game (watch his defense vs. Janos Nagy). Great power in both hands, and as I've said, his personality outside the ring is as wild and colorful as his style inside the ropes... What a shame he couldn't become an international fan's fighter a few years ago...

Always been a fan of Barrios his fight with Fretias was amazing both guys trading knockdowns. Hope he gets an opportunity to fight one of the top guys he was meant to fight Marquez but got injured a fight against Manny would be great or Casamayor always felt those should have fought at 130lbs a few years ago if they fought now it would sill be great.

anyway, yes, i agree. with its proximity to the main market of boxing which is the united states, fighters from mexico have better chances of making it to the big time. all promoters have to do is drive a bit south and they'd see a plethora of willing and able fighter whom they could take and sell to the fans.

it is much tougher when a fighter comes from other parts of the world. mexicans would on average, i presume, will be able to fight in the US in their first ten fights. asians and other have to wait incredibly long to be able to strut their stuff under the bright lights

Anyways, back on topic I really think barrios is great, he manage to put a close fight with guzman and I would love to see him fight against Soto once Soto wins that title against Fana

He has a quite bad reputation in his country for hitting women and not being able to control himself.
