Jorge Linares also deserves respect already for taking the fight, regardless of the outcome

He just posted in his twitter account (autotranslated from Spanish):
And I realized that it's true — he is a warrior and deserves respect!

Anyone who fights Loma after the Walters fight gets my respect. Even more so after the Rigo fight. Getting knocked out is one thing, but getting completely dismantled and "played around" with is a whole new level. Fair play to Linares.

LOL; How much respect does a champ get for fighting a guy coming up in weight?

The dude turned pro in 2002.

I have Linares at around 8/9 in my P4P Top 10. Lomachenko can remove any doubt that he is P4P with this win. Linares could easily move Top 2/3 with this win.

Let me tell you right now, and I say this having known pros, including a couple of champs.

When a fighter's manager offers him a fight, the first thing they ask is "how much am I getting paid." Boxers aren't like football players, they don't get paid unless they fight, so they are going to take the best offer.

The second question is "Where is the fight being shown." Boxers have egos, they all want to fight on PPV, then premium cable, etc.

The third question is, "how big is he?"

Fighters are a little crazy, you have to be in this business. As shocking as it may sound, they think they can beat anyone in their division. The MANAGERS, however are a different story. They are the ones who do due dilligence as to who to put the fighter in with.

Let me tell you to a %99 certainty, Linares manager would put him in with 140 lb. Lomachenko over 150 lb. Beltran any day of the week. and Linares would probably make the same decision.

Of course. He wants to test himself, and that always merits respect.

Moreover, he's always come across as a gentleman from what I've seen.

That I've never been high on him as a fighter doesn't make him any less respectable/likeable.

After facing domestic level opposition since his two losses, he owed the fans a step up in opposition.

This is also generally true. "Domestic" may be a harsh description of his level opposition, but it's certainly been fringey.
