Up at 147 lbs, someone like Marlon Starling would have been a good test for Valero.

I actually reckon Morales would beat DeMarco to a cut stoppage ;-)

 

I think DeMarco would beat Morales at this juncture. He'll find it a lot easier to get off against Morales, whose legs are not what they were. DeMarco probably ain't going to budge either, so Morales will want to pace himself or he could find himself shipping a lot of punishment down the stretch.

 

True, but he has made up for his feet (stuck in concrete at best) with his ring smarts. I think he could find the shots against DeMarco, and is tough enough not to get stopped.

Not totally unreasonable call I don't think. Would be a 50-50 fight.

Starling-Valero is a 99-1 fight.

 

:yep Agreed. I could see either man winning, but I don't envision Morales dominating anything. DeMarco is far better than the likes of Pablo Cano, more proven, and he does have decent power at 135lbs.

 

Certainly better than Cano!!!!

 

I distinctly remember Cano hurting Morales and finding the target early on during their fight the other month.

People will naturally make Morales the favourite if he was to ever fight DeMarco, but Morales can't do the things Linares can do. He doesn't possess that level of handspeed or mobility. He no longer throws in combination as often as he would back in his prime. He can't sustain a great workrate. DeMarco is going to be getting off a hell of a lot, and I think it'll just turn into a war of attrition. I'm not sure Morales would win a battle like that with DeMarco at this point in his career.

But yeah, I agree. It'd be incredibly competitive, and I wouldn't be surprised if either man won a close but clear decision.

 

I don't remember that, was quite wrecked at the time, but only really remember Morales finding his range with the right and busting the kid up.

Then again, the highlighted bit is probably the most telling
