His promoter gave him 2 titles in 2 different weight divisions against horrible opposition.

Id kill for a promoter like that.

I thought he'd explode on the scene after his victory over Oscar Larios but I guess I was mistaken. Japanese promoters only look at the regional picture.

They are so used to promoting guys to win titles in Japan that they forget the distinction between a title reign akin to Ottke and a legitimate one no matter how short it is.

BOxing is pretty big in Japan and the fighters can make just as much money fighting in their comfort zone rather than coming to the states.. That's the problem with japanese fighters and the other guys who fight there.. Linares is financially comfortable right now but if he's serious about making a mark, he better drop teiken and move on.

He will though in due time.

Valero and Linares are two different situations. Valero was signed by GBP but lost his license for 4 years here so I get why he was with the Japanese promoter, but then he got reinstated in Texas and went to Top Rank.

I don't really get why Linares ever signed with them or at least why he has stayed. He's an excellent fighter though. I won't be surprised if he's with Top Rank before long. The Japanese promoter actually held up Valero even after his license was reinstated in Texas so I guess that might put Linares out of commission for awhile too if he leaves.

He has the same promoters Valero used to have, and he'll probably ditch them for a US promoter once his contract is up. That said, I'm sure he makes plenty of money fighting for Teiken, since boxing pulls huge ratings in Japan even when the fight is a total mismatch. Teiken has never been interested in building up their fighters outside of Japan though.

Linares is still young, his next fight was originally to be based in Texas but somehow is now to be fought in Mexico. We shall see what is next for him after this fight.

The problem with Jorge Linares is he is prone to a lot of injuries. He suffered a cut during training for his fight with Josafat Perez. In was Originally scheduled for March.

I'm under the impression that Linares likes Japan, which could play into it as well.
