I feel bad for this guy. He had the tools but lost his power. You can see he doesn't throw the overhand right like he used to. He hit Demarco with some heavy blows but never dented him. Basically won every round but never even hurt his opponent. still a good fighter, but without any power he won't make it to the elite. I guess now's the time to eat my words on this guy. Just feel that if he hadn't injured his shoulder a few years back, the story would be written differently. He never looked as sharp in any of his subsequent fights.
It must suck to make a thread like this and have to eat your words. I thought Linares was serious but I guess getting KOed in his first loss changed him for the worst. Linares seems more like a lie than the truth.
i still believe in him. I think the cut had more to do with him losing then what demarco was doing. I'd really like to see a rematch
Linares is an absolutely beautiful boxer, but he has two compounding issues: 1)He has no power 2)He likes to discard his superior boxing skills and get into scraps. I felt really bad for him tonight, but honestly, demarco fought a smart, smart fight, leaving some gas in the tank for an assault in the 11th.
**** you man!!! Everytime a Mexican owns, someone is quick to discredit them.....Demarco caused that cut with his punches, he beat him fair and square.....not every boxer has to box pretty to be effective. Demarcio is plenty skill anyhow
He got a shoulder injury after his win over Gameliel Diaz and never looked the same after. I still wanted to believe he would return to top form but he was never as impressive when he came back.
My impressions were more of Demarco's ability to firmly resist all of the onslaughts than to belabor Linares' lack of power. His (Demarco's) beard tonight was absolutely incredible, I thought. And, if matched against an opponent with slightly less punch resistance, Jorge probably would have been able to get his guy outta there. He showed out a variety of ways to land some punishing blows that just couldn't create any kinks in Demarco's seemingly impenetrable armor.
This had a Tony/Cotto I type feel to it, Demarco was just heavier handed and had more heart and balls. He took Linares **** for the first half of the fight, but the pressure was just too much for him late. Credit to Demarco...
