someone just sent me the link this was on it mentioned doing something with linares and murray .
These lads are prize fighters and the prize has to be worth the risk linares a good fighter Former World Champion kod Larios in ten rds who year earleir lost on points to pacman Larios good fighter as well .

Like i said in my column this week Macklin Hatton and Murray are in very strong weight divisions at World title scene and to win a world title in any of them divisions is going to be a massive acheivment as there are weaker world champions in other divisions

I hope that he is offered the fight and that he takes it Joe. He's been waiting for a big fight to come round and if it does he shouldn't pass it up. Like you said it's a division with a lot of good fighters and if he beat Linares his name would be up there with other big names in the division.

john isent very old for the level he's at, he'll be getting decent wages for euro, defenses, why go looking for a razor sharp boxer to fight eliminaters with, i would fight Alex arthur, then gavin rees, then try and capture a strait title shot in a years time, maybe linares will be champ by then.

Let's keep it real - John Murray would absolutely thrash Alex Arthur.

For his own safety I hope the board wouldn't let Arthur take this fight. He was clearly beaten by English level Nigel Wright and lost a few rounds to McDonagh..... who is area level.

Alex needs to give it up. He's done.

    Damn right.:good

He lost to Salgado, got caught cold in the 1st. But apart from that he's looked quality.

He shown better skills and mixed in higher company than Murray. This is a fight John should run from. Linares would dominate in this fight.

I sometimes think I'm the only one who still loves the waifs and strays who have a bad night. Linares is a good fighter. Not the guy some thought he was, but good nonetheless.

His movement and punch selection were excellent when he faced Larios, even though he struggled with the pressure early on in the fight. The KO loss to Salgado was a result of being caught cold, not his skills being found wanting.

But I don't think he'd dominate John. Linares hasn't looked confident since the loss, even when he was boxing rings around Rocky Juarez. His defence is porous when under pressure - his left hand drops, he wings punches, and he stops concentrating.

I think he'd try and be cautious with Murray and jab him, but John's pretty good at timing jabs and coming over the top.

That's not to say Murray would win, but I think he'd have success. For me, Murray needs to face a couple of top ten guys in his division and then go for a Linares type fighter.

John's one of my favourite current fighters, but he's not beating any of the title holders based on what I've seen. But he might still be able to. He's young, fit and he seems very methodical in his approach. If he keeps improving his footwork he could do well at LW.

I see what you're saying, but Murray doesn't seem to have the one-punch power to bang Linares out.

Plus, Jorge put Juarez on his arse with a punch off the back foot, and Juarez has shown pretty good punch resistance in his career. Murray's style, coming forward and putting on pressure, plays into Linares' hands in my opinion. I just don't think he can take the kind of punishment/counters that Larios and Juarez took.

But I'm basing this more on levels. Murray would never have come across the kinda guy who can ping with powerful, fast shots the way Linares can. But if he rises to the occasion, then fair play to him. Its not an impossible ask, but looking at it subjectively I just think it is a bridge too far.

I agree with you, D-Mac. Based on who John's fought, I give him very little chance.

i'm skeptical about linares he was squashed by some unbeaten 130lb fighter not so long ago, when he campaigned at 130 he looked terrible in many of his fights and he was fighting less then stellar opponents, i wouldn't read 2 much into his latest wins at lightweight juarez and jesus chavez have both been reduced to gatekeeper level, murray can put some serious hurt on this guy, i dont consider linares world class at all

Whether Linares has a good chin or not, he's seriously unimpressive as a fighter, and his level of competition is not far superior to Murrays. A shot Larios, Juarez out of his best weight was his best win, and a loss to a nobody in Salgado.

He's fought no one with Murrays physicality that's for sure.

Still, it's a big step up in class for Murray; I'd favour Linares on points.
