Who has Linares ever slaughtered though? And at 135lbs?

Linares is massively overrated. If there's anyone primed for a nobody to beat up it's him, he looks half-decent aesthetically and people think he's awesome because of it. He ain't the sum of his parts.

Linares is an odd one - overrated by some and underrated by others.

Very few seem to weigh him on a balanced scale. :yep

The thing is, he was billed as a wrecking ball but even if he once was he certainly isn't any longer at lightweight.

He is a beautiful boxer...and when he's in with a certain type he looks downright brilliant.

The thing is, nobody's really been the same type as Murray that he's seen as a pro. Conversely, Murray hasn't seen anybody who can box like Linares.

They're about level in age, size, reach, strength, and experience.

Linares is quicker of hand; Murray has the sturdier whiskers.

    It's not all that bad a match-up.

90% of msg board "experts" base their analysis from boxrec,

All Linares wins he systematically beat and looks good. Murray in comparison doesnt. Looks in different league. Like Amir Khan has the odd blemish but is definitly a beautiful sound fighter.

I really wish this fight happens so i can re-open this thread after the result.

Lightweight is the hottest division in boxing right now due to the fights being made.

    Lightweight (135lbs)
World Champion: Juan Manuel Marquez (WBA & WBO) - Beat Michael Katsidis November 2010
    1. Humberto Soto (WBC)
    2. Michael Katsidis
    3. Miguel Acosta
    4. Miguel Vasquez (IBF)
    5. Robert Guerrero
    6. Juan Diaz
    7. Brandon Rios
    8. Urbano Antillon
    9. Jorge Linares
    10. Leonardo Zappavigna
    11. John Murray
    12. Paulus Moses
    13. Marco Antonio Barerra
    14. John Molina
    15. Antonio DeMarco

In the next 6 months theres a realistic possibility off

    1. Soto vs 8. Antalion
    2. Katsidis vs 5. Guererro
    3. Acosta vs 7. Rios
    4. Vasquez vs 10. Zappavigna
    9. Linares vs 11. Murray

You also have Marquez as champion agaisnt a vetran Morales. Whatever you think will be exciting. and guys like Barerra and Juan Diaz still around.

she,s definatly a tough devision, makes a fight with rees look easy, although it definatly is not, thats a fight john should be looking at, it should pull in a big purse, as i'd like to watch it, also i think with a chance against murray, alex would make lightweight and be the better for it, he,s a skilfull fighter with power, i could see it being a good fight.

Bantamweight. A higher calibre range of fighters, and they're all fighting each other too.

The top two, Donaire and Montiel, are about to clash. And we have the four man tournament. The winner of Donaire-Montiel is a natural to fight the winner of the tournament.

Donaire will move up and fight at Super Bantam where Top Rank have 3 world title holders. He won't fight the winner of Perez vs Mares

i just list 5 50-50 fights. no other division could you do it where theres the potential of them being made in the next 6 months.

50-50 fights don't make it the best division in boxing though. There's plenty of 50-50 fights to be made at SFW, but its probably the worst division in boxing.

And don't worry, when Montiel mullers Donaire I'm sure he'll hang around to fight the tournament winner.

    Fantastic textbook boxing, perhaps?

IMO, there isn't any one trait that really elevates him but he is solid in every area and looks quite fluid when in rhythm.
