I've put my .2 cents in on this one enough times now I think. Just take a look at my avatar and you will know the answer
Linares wins by either knockout or UD. Gamboa though much older is not ready for this fight yet. Maybe in a year or 2
:rofl Amazing how ignorant boxing fans are sometimes. He gets KD'd by Jimenez and that means slow Linares, who's smaller and not as durable, but similiarly hittable for Gamboa as he wholly relies on his footwork and has poor head movement is going to be favoured? Oh.My.God.atsch Gamboa in 3-4 rounds, seriously, Linares freezes up when under heavy attack and relies on a reset of distance, he won't get that vs. Gamboa, he is the one not ready for this fight. This type of ignorance irritates me. Watch some ****ING FILM of Linares and then Gamboa, analyse the opponents and their performance and then make a prediction, don't just listen to hype.
Why not just say that you disagree, then state your opinion? Fair to say we have different opinions on these two. Gamboa has a serious liability in his defense that was exposed by a good but not great boxer a few weeks back. His fluidity and speed are amazing but they are accompanied by a laze and arrogance in his defensive abilities. With his age and lengthy amateur background, I don't see this being sure up, its just a gut feeling. Put him with the elites as is, and he is a KO waiting to happen. Linares doesn't posess the speed or reflexes of Gamboa, but is a better athlete than you think. He spent some time in some L.A. gyms a while back and I can tell you that anyone who saw him saw great talent. He has solid fundamentals and a great left hook to the body. Oh yea, and he keeps his hands up and approaches boxing with a little more of a humble mindset. Thats very attractive in a boxer IMO.
Here's two facts about Linares - Larios found tagged him quite a bit, Gamaliel Diaz buzzed him in the first round. Want to know the difference in power from Diaz to Jimenez, Larios to Jimenez? Put shot ass Larios in with another Gamboa opponent now, in Johnny Edwards, and you'd be right to heavily favour Edwards by knockout, same guy Gamboa starched in the 1st. Took Linares 10 rounds to break down a well worn Larios, it'd take Gamboa 1-2 max, Linares break people down for knockouts, he isn't KOing Gamboa, he does not have the same punching power Jimenez has, who scored a flash KD and then couldn't put a dent in him with flush shots after. Will Linares clip Gamboa? Yes. Will it have much effect? Hell no, especially when Linares is being swarmed and is half frozen up and getting tagged all over the ring. Learn a little more about boxing, people. This is insulting to the integrity of the pursuit of accurately analysing match ups.
It's not like that, this is plain INCORRECT from all aspects. It's not like 'oh Cotto will beat Floyd in my opinion and then another says, Oh but in my opinion Floyd does this and this to Cotto' and the disagreement is legitimate. This is a ****ing mismatch and it's only considered otherwise because of how ridiculously OVERHYPED Linares is, a very average fighter. You think Gamboa's got a liability? Watch Linares, he's a target for a top fighter, he relies solely on his foot movement for defence and is poor otherwise. Gamboa can do multiple things to defend to accompany his head movement and the difference in speed here is just absurd. It's a slow fighter with decent timing vs. a tornado and the timer does not have adequate power to discourage the tornado and has a shitty defence himself. Linares is FAR from an elite, don't even go there or I will berate you to hell and back on the subject. Linares is a B level fighter, in a **** poor, weak division who is insanely overhyped just because he's skillful(but lacking in ability) at 22. He will get better, but will max out at B+ level, never an elite fighter and the match is if it happens now. None of you guys can bring a legit gameplan to how Linares can beat a whirlwind like Gamboa if you actually watch the video of him. No, I am spot on in my analysis of Linares. Rating fighters is something I am highly proficient at, in fact, I've rarely if ever been off base. People often see great talents in decent talents, all the time, how does this equate to how he makes it out of the first few rounds with Gamboa, with his own serious liabilities? He does have solid fundamentals, but nothing in this level of physical ability. Watch JMM, then watch Linares, watch a young JMM, then watch Linares. Note the differences in timing and speed. No wait, excuse me, the dumb**** crew here compares him to a young DLH, compare that ACB.:tired And how does this equate to him being an elite fighter? If anything he'd be intimidated by Gamboa. And by the way, Linares vs. Jimenez at 130 is a fight I'd favour Jimenez to easily chin check Linares in and gain a KO victory. I was not high on Linares when he was being hyped from Japan after I watch his youtube feed and I was not impressed with his performance vs. Larios, nor his performance vs. Diaz. Fundamentally sound, but average all the way around.
Another aspect to the game of Linares that is nice is his punch variation to the body. When he lets his hands go he looks good. He needs at this point to be taught to double his jab up when coming forward and to use a jab when moving backward if he isn't going to counterpunch. He is young, throws straight punches, keeps his hands up- good stuff.
No head movement, relies solely on foot movement, freezes and resets, not particularly fast, fair timing, his shots lack snappy precision, his jab can be lazy and his defence is very leaky and he's not hard to drive to the ropes and into a corner. If it's made in July, Gamboa jumps right on him and crushes him, Linares has nothing to keep him off and is not prepared to deal with that kind of assault.
Fair enough, we agree to disagree. You believe that you are always correct, and many times you are. But you are underating Linares and overating Gamboa. Personally, I firmly believe that if anyone is being hyped to ridiculous levels its Gamboa, not Linares. Just tell me how, exactly, this flaw in his defense is going to be straightened out? Its engrained in him, through hundreds of amateur fights and he is 26 years old. When he steps to the elite, boxing like this, he will get KTFO'd. Mark my words.
Yeh I was going to add that he would completely break down from a guy like Gamboa swarming him. Whats he going to do when Gamboas lightning fast flurries are hitting him all over and he's not quick enough or able enough to deal with it? I think break down, and FAST
