Jorge Linares, Manny Pacquiao's former sparring partner, scored a fourth round knockout win over Mexican Javier Prieto at the Metropolitan Gym Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan. :happy
Kind of a soft touch for a belt but good to see him pickup a strap. Linares vs Crawford needs to happen if the latter doesn't jump to 140
Jorge Linares has one of the weakest resumes for a three-division world champion. He lost every single time he stepped up in competition.
I'd like to see Linares-Figueroa. Obviously, Linares would be favored, but Figueroa would have a good puncher's chance. Fights between a hard-punching slugger and a weak-chinned boxer are the most exciting kind of fights.
Linares vs. Prieto having a world title belt at stake was just downright silly. Linares contending for a vacant title is fine, but Prieto had exactly one good win in his career (Mosquera) and had since lost some of that initial rise in stock by drawing twice with Cano. Linares was basically gifted a world title on a silver platter. ...get it? because Prieto was the WBC Silver champ?
I think Linares can actually have a decent run with it, I give him a decent chance against Crawford as well, too much is made of his losses, the Demarco match he won every round until the cut stoppage, and the Thompson fight was a cut as well, granted after a KD, which was residual damage from the DeMarco fight. He's skilled enough to be a decent test at least.
Sidenote: what's the likelihood of boxing_master doing a thread on Linares had he not been a former sparring partner of Manny's .....most likely 0.0
Many are still quite butthurt about that.:yep Meanwhile I picked Brook:smoke Sparring partner's are now caught up in proxy wars between Floyd and Pac fans:-( Maniacs
He get drop a few time early in career. He like Amir Khan meet Hozumi Hasegawa. Chin bad but very excitement
