i seen a couple of this guy's fights and this guy has been impressive each time (atleast to me). He seems like he is a good all around talent who can box or brawl and throws beautiful combinations (similar to a young dlh fashion). What are your guys thoughts on this guy? he already has the WBC belt (i dont know if you can still call him a prospect because of that). I'm thinking maybe he fights at 126 for 2-3 more fights most notably chris john possibly JML and if he is successful, then moves up to 130 where all the excitment and money is at. At 130 he can fight the likes of guzman, marquez, soto etc (which makes for exciting fights). Thoughts?

Super talent who just needs to move and live in the States, fight more regularly and fight on GBP/HBO cards.

By the way: it's not only Linares... it's the LINARES BROTHERS! Carlos Linares has just lost his 3rd pro fight, but at 19 he's got time.

A good fighter, but don't expect much more than B+. The guy is hittable, weak to pressure and not particularly quick, but he can improve. People calling him a future P4P topper are way off, they only do so because they recognised Larios' name and Linares TKO'd him in a good scrap at age 22, failing to realise the former 122 pounder was shot.

    For a future P4P?

On what grounds? Mijares has a much better defence, superior timing, superior punch variety, superior accuracy, superior footwork and movement and has one of the best jabs in boxing, seems to match well with just about every style. Mijares also is much quicker, great handspeed.

Linares looks very sloppy by comparison to Mijares' quick, precise work.

I like Linares, and I think he'll have a great career. Before the Larios fight, he was mostly unknown and his competition was garbage. After he beat a shot Larios, people called him a future P4P great. I think he definitely looks solid, but I'm not yet sold on his future P4P greatness. I'm looking forward to following his career.

Was a little suprised about how excited people got about this guy at first.

But he is a very good fighter and would probably clean out 126.
The Larios win is pretty overrated. I dont think Larios came into this fight in the same shape as he did against Pac, I dont think Larios was at the level he was at. And I feel Larios has a style that was trumped by Linaries' style, he imposes his will and outworks guys, In Linaries he took on a guy who could outmuscle him, keep up with his pace and was better in most other fields which made him look decidely average IMO.

Prior to that I was impressed by Linaries but putting the sitution into context I thought to myself most half decent fighters could destroy the guys he was destroying. Larios was a big win but he is yet to follow it up, so the jury is still out for me.

Linares is a solid young fighter who has no where to go but up. I like the way he puts his punches together. They're quick and snappy. His defense is leaky, so that's one area for future improvement. A guy like Robert Guerrero would really test him.

This guy will be the champion of the lower weight classes up to 140. He deserves the title "golden boy" and he is the equal of the outstanding Gamboa as boxings great hope for the next 5 years.
