Ill take Masvidal by brutal beatdown. I dont think melendez is gonna get him down or if he does he wont be able to keep him down. I see melendez style on the feet playing right into masvidals. I think 3 to 1 odds is absolutely ridiculous. Should be more like masvidal +150.
If melendez wins its because he gets him down and keeps him there 3 of the 5 rounds. On the feet is a huge mismatch. Masvidal is the best counterstriker in MMA.
Yeah, he's great. I believe you were preaching about Masvidal's standup a few weeks ago. I would like to think Melendez is better on his feet since I only see Masvidal throwing hands, but I honestly don't know.. Haven't seen enough footage between the two. Masvidal does everything on his feet. Good kicks, knees from the clinch, the best jab and left hook to the body in mma. He is a counter striker. Ive been following masvidal for about 6 years and melendez about 5. The one thing alot of people dont know that is a huge factor is masvidal has only had a stregth and conditioning coach and dietision since he started in strikeforce. Hes fought twice in strikeforce. Both fights he didnt get tired in high paced fights. I read an interview with masvidal before the evangelista fight and he said before he hired a dietishion he used to just stop eating 2 weeks before a fight and he said he honestly ate hamburgers and desserts right up until the weight cut. After watching his first two performances i believe that. Masvidal at +300 against melendez is the best bet of the year. I dont see melendez winning any other way then on a horrible decision here. I will never place another bet aslong as i live if masvidal doesnt win this fight.
Masvidal is an outstanding counterpuncher and if Melendez plays around on the feet he's gambling. Melendez is outstanding offensively and I can see his speed giving Masvidal fits but Gil can be predictable when he lunges in leading with the straight right and Masvidal is the guy that can capitalize on that. I, however, see Gil keeping him off balance with the lead rights and using that to set up the double leg. Melendez by decision.
There is more of a disparity in skills on the feet than on the ground. If masvidal was an A standup fighter id say melendez is no better than a C+ to B-. You guys will see. Melendez wrestling is better but not by the margin of disparity on the feet. Gil stands he gets picked apart.
I like masvidal to win but i'm kinda rooting for melendez just cuz i want to see him fight frankie edgar next.
I'm a Melendez man. I respect his striking and grappling. Masvidal has good hands but I'm sure Melendez has good enough hands to get brutal like he loves to do.
