Round 1

Páez is turning like a dial and looking for Herrera, showing his jab but keeping it holstered. NICE stiff jab flung in from outside by Herrera, very quick and sudden, stinging Páez. The crowd gasps. Herrera continues to jab in and push at Páez with two gloves on his chest after lowering his face past the Páez jab. Páez is having trouble finding Herrera, missing his 1-2 over his shoulders. Herrera flicks jabs up at the face, getting Páez to raise his guard, and jabs the body. Lots of twitchy movement and hand-fakes by Herrera, confusing Páez. Big left hook on the body by Páez, but Herrera steps laterally to reduce its impact. Long jabs by Herrera, making Páez duck back.

Round 2

Páez is walking Herrera down and sending his left arm up in a cape-flourishing motion, not quite snapped out like a jab, odd-looking but successful in backing Herrera up. Counter left hooks by Herrera but Páez is punching with him and scoring with the right. Páez is getting comfortable now, jabbing the body and falling in with overhand rights above the gloves of Herrera, kept bunched at his chin. Herrera is hooked on the body and misses a couple of hooks up top as Páez rubber-waists. Páez is slipping jabs, turning his cheek as he steps in. Grazing right by Páez.

Round 3

Páez is waving his left out at Herrera, bossing him across the ring. Herrera jabs over his shoulder and ties up as Páez catches up to him. Páez jabs into the chest and hooks off the jab, hitting the back of Herrera's glove. They grind to a standstill on the Tecate logo and Páez works body shots. Herrera now takes his turn, nice hooks on the body. Páez is caught by a right on the face and ties up. The crowd starts a "Joya" chant. Páez is backing away from Herrera's jab, leaning over with his neck tilted and left arm curled around his body. Herrera is executing needlepoint footwork, very hyperactive, changing directions and jabbing nonstop. Páez is doing nothing, watching.

Round 4

Páez is circling to his right, waiting for Herrera to come jabbing in, and looping a right into his face, using his momentum for added emphasis, then switching to go left. Páez is letting some combinations go as Herrera braves the waters coming in with his jab. Herrera tries hooking the body and Páez overwhelms him with a flurry.

Round 5

Páez is covering up with his arms folded over his face, walking through Herrera's jab. Neither man wants to give up an inch, but Páez scores an uppercut and sends Herrera reeling involuntarily. Páez walks into a couple of big left hooks. Uppers on the body by Páez, attaching himself to Herrera. Flurry by Páez. Shoeshine on the body by Páez. BIG left rip downstairs by Páez. Herrera tries pushing off to line up his jab and Páez rocks him with a right and hook. Páez stems the tide of a Herrera flurry on the body with a hook on the face, making Herrera lean in and bury his gob in Páez's chest again. BIG shots traded in center ring. Heavy right by Páez.

Round 6

Páez is jabbing into the guard, and getting pulled in close by Herrera. Shove-off by Herrera, stepping back but unable to get a jab off before Páez hustles in close again. Uppercuts by Herrera, whizzing past the face of Páez or caroming off it with no effect. Páez is marching forward, oblivious to counters. A couple of big left hooks by Páez. He is warned for a stray punch behind the head as Herrera turned away. Herrera goes down in the corner from another foul - didn't see it, too fast - low blow? Nope, another rabbit punch says the replay (another Herrera invited, turning away from Páez while being hit). Herrera is selling it. He is unable to continue. TKO? Round's over, going to commercial (and that wasn't 3 minutes, I don't think)

Some very odd choices by the Comision de Box Mérida down in Yucatán...


Boxrec.com (and several articles from other websites) list a "TD5" even though it definitely Made it at least 2 minutes into the sixth. :?

There are no scores, either.

So it was a TD because of the foul (basically another way of making it a No Contest) rather than having been scored a draw on a technical ddecision? :huh

Why not just go to whatever the sscorecards were (including the sixth, as is normally done by US commissions)?
