MDV is coming off an upset over Javier Francisco Maciel in a rematch last October and has thus far, despite his ugly record (posting nearly twenty losses for just slightly better than a career .500 mark) proven a fairly effective foil to El Gaucho de Pigüé.

In their original trilogy, Veron fought to a draw with Heiland and then swapped majority decisions with him. Most recently they met in 2014, with a steadily improving Heiland stopping his rival in a tiebreaker.

Heiland is currently world rated and poised for a big money date with a major player in the division later this year, perhaps Andy Lee. This familiar old journeyman countryman of his is looking to even the scoreboard and scupper his plans.

 

Sergio Nahuel Lopez just kayoed his opponent Carlos Alberto Rodriguez in 1. Drilled him with a big right hand thrown across the ring, landing between the eyes as Rodriguez clambered along the ropes.

 

A loss to Verón tonight would undo so much of Heiland's banked-away momentum since establishing himself as near-elite and would probably necessitate a sixth installment (with, preferably, some kind of authoritative go-ahead victory, ideally another stoppage) before he could resume his march to a title shot.

 

He found a way to be very competitive with Heiland in three of their four previous encounters.
