I predicted Mijares would bamboozle Vic to the point where he outscored him so much down the stretch he would've stopped him.

But Mijares was thrown off his stride early. An ATG? No. But definitely one of the better operators I saw in the last decade, which was admittedly not too high on depth.

I always like it when an underdog pastes the favorite all over the place and boxing hardasses are more likely to say they were wrong about how good the favorite was instead of how good the underdog was. A little credit to Darchinyan. He's awkward as ****all but usually highly efficient. Much more craft, ordinarily, than he's given credit for. Horrible, Mosleyandian temperament, but still. Not a cave man.

You could just as easily be describing Mijares-Arce as Darchinyan-Mijares. :good

As for Vic's approach...I like to think everyone recognizes that while it's unorthodox and not the kind of thing any aspiring buckaroos should imitate, there is some method to the madness. It works for him. Well, except against three of the top bantamweights...so far...

15 year pro career that has now bridged three decades; crossed paths with Carbajal (who is certainly eligible for discussion in CF); peaked way back and probably should have retired years ago.

As BE pointed out, other active fighters have career retrospectives discussed here...as in many cases parts of their career do indeed qualify as "classic boxing".

If we were discussing Arce's next fight, that would be different. Arce-Vazquez breakdowns should be kept in the General Forum. Looking back on the significant moments of Arce's career (most of which came a decade or more ago) and putting it in the context of recent history? That is more than appropriate here.

Besides, TS already spammed General with an identical thread.

Always thought he was one of the better bodypunchers of the last 20 years. Jirov level stuff. Just debilitating power downstairs.

Also, the only fighter to ever stop the iron chinned, ultra tough Melchor Cob Castro, which he did with a bodyshot.

It was comical. Castro is 5'0 tall, Arce is 5'7. Arce gained almost TWENTY POUNDS after the weigh in, which he passed out at. No ****. You think Harrison/McCullough was a man vs boy fight size wise, just sit down and watch the second Castro/Arce fight.
