Jorneymen who defeated the most world champions/beltholders

Glen Johnson has wins over Roy Jones Jr., Tarver, Clinton Woods, Montell Griffin and arguably should have wins over Sven Ottke, Julio Gonzalez, and Cloud.

Four wins over world champs that very easily could have been seven.

 

You might as well count Archie Moore if you're counting Johnson.

 

Brian Nielson was journeyman level, although his regional popularity got him paydays.

He beat Tubbs, Norris, Grant, Holmes, Carlos De Leon, and Witherspoon.

That's six.

 

Journey Joe Walcott has two wins over Ezzard Charles, a win over Harold Johnson, and what looked like a win over Joe Louis.

 

You're a harsh harsh man if you think Glen J was a journeyman

 

Joe Miceli was a journeyman, no doubt, with a record of 60-42-9. But, he beat Ike Williams, Virgil Akins, Johnny Saxton, Wallace ‘Bud’ Smith, drew with Joey Giardello and beat a slew of top contenders. Not too shabby.

It's somewhat debatable. He certainly became a top contender but he was a guy with not much of an amateur pedigree and was mostly an opponent type for most of his career until he upset Jones and Tarver in back to back fights. He was never an A side fighter early in his career. He was the guy promoters brought in to test top guys.

 

In no way am I'm trying to disrespect Johnson but he was never an A level guy early on. He was the guy getting short money and brought in to test the A side prospects. He certainly became more than a Journeyman and was a top contender for a solid time period.

I was ringside when he lost a tight fight to Cloud. I personally thought he won that fight but tou could literally say that about at least 6 or 7 of his losses.

 

You should probably review his career if that went over your head.

 

Which fighter? I know both of their careers very well. Moore and Johnson don't compare at all. Moore is an ATG and Johnson was only briefly at the top of his division in his era. What the **** are talking about NoBrain?

 

If a 175 champion can be a journeyman due to struggles earlier in their career, you might as well go with Moore instead of denigrating Johnson as a champion.

 

I don’t know if I’d classify Oliver McCall as a journeyman his WHOLE career but he was certainly one for part of it. He managed to beat past, present or future belt holders in:

- Bruce Seldon
- Lennox Lewis
- Francesco Damiani
- Oleg Maskaev
- Henry Akinwande
- Larry Holmes
