Fifth of February @ the Michelob Ultra in Las Vegas, part of a PBC show on Fox PPV. As with the main event of Keith Fitzgerald "One-Time" Thurman vs. Mario Thomas "El Azteca" Barrios, this has been sanctioned by the WBC as part of a series of non-final welterweight eliminators which eventually shall yield a mandatory challenger for Errol Spence (notwithstanding his mooted unification dance with Yordenis Ugás). Thurman is currently ranked #4 by the WBC although his opponent is absent from its top 15 coming up from 140lbs - so the most Thurman can really do is solidify his position, maybe nudge himself up one space. For either López or Ramos, however, there is the promise of cracking top 5. Right now they are ranked tenth and eleventh respectively. López is the older man by seven years chronologically and made his pro debut almost nine years earlier, but in terms of accummulated wear & tear his ring age probably stands at solidly a decade or more beyond Ramos'. That said, he fared better versus their one common (and recent) opponent in Francisco "Chia" Santana. Ramos got off the floor to earn a wide UD over him in 2019, and López stopped him with two minutes left in their own ten round tilt in the following year.
I've never found Josesito Lopez all that likeable. Also, I'm still annoyed that he sent John Molina Jr, one of my favorite boxers, into retirement. So time for him to receive a similar sending off into the sunset. Ramos ruthlessly batters and stops him in 7.
@CST80 you sense it too, huh? A grisly defeat that will be harder to watch for Josesito fans than any since Canelo ...perhaps even surpassing it? Really hope we are wrong.
Eh, he seems like an angry unlikeable bitter a-hole sometimes.. especially lately, so he's kind of rubbed me the wrong way for quite some time. But yeah, I used to like him about the same as you awhile back. But, I mean... I'm huge fan of Molina and Santana's, so... yeah, **** him.
Well, we already knew this was off (Ramos now facing Lucas Santamaria) but now we have confirmation of why. This content is protected Honestly it might be for the best if he doesn't even bother with the comeback in Spring. He already would have been coming into this on a 15 month layoff and before that it was another 15 months between Molina Jr. and Chia Santana. That was a nice little 1-2 punch of victories, zero chance he will match that run again at his age and with his body breaking down sustaining injuries in camp. Just pack it in and bow out on as high a note as you're apt to get.
What happened to Chia Santana? Is he fighting again any time soon. I think Ramos has to be the favorite here.
