José Olavides Uzcátegui vs. Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna, 10 rounds @ light heavyweight

 

Guys this is going to be an explosive fight while it lasts. This is a better main event than shit-ass ESPN+ deserves.

 

10-9 Uzcátegui

 

20-18 Uzcátegui, walking Maderna down confidently with stiff combos (straights, loops & uppercuts in a mimimum of twos, sometimes as many as fours and fives), picking off the counter jabs flipped up off the hip by a machismo-displaying and grinning but outclassed Maderna.

 

Round 3

Uzcátegui is forcing Maderna into the ropes with jabs and right hands to his earlobes (setting them a-quiver like Jello) and cheeks on either side. Just precise, pinpoint, powerful, painful shots - and yet Maderna is soaking it all up and tossing out a few shuriken jabs while stepping left, even braving the inside waters at times with a plunging right hand on the belt line. Uzcátegui is lighting Maderna up equally whether he's moving forward or backward. Uzcátegui just playing around with different combinations, experimenting with angles, tattooing Maderna, primarily headhunting but landing heavy thudding body shots at will as well.

Round 4

Uzcátegui is starting to bore some holes in Maderna's defenses now, punching into his left elbow deliberately to make it hurt more when he positions it over his flank to shield against body shots. Uzcátegui is slapping Maderna's lead glove down, then feinting, then doing it again but actually firing the right and jolting Maderna. They have one brief exchange where both land hooks and Uzcátegui's head snaps back in sync with Maderna's but otherwise all 1-way traffic. Maderna is shifting his weight between his feet and remaining solidly planted on firm ground, never wobbled so badly he seems to be on the verge of going down - but just getting outpointed in a landslide and out-slugged by the stronger and more athletic (not to mention higher ring IQ) guy.

Round 5

Uzcátegui is leaning forward, ducking and swirling his upper body underneath some of Maderna's poking straight combos, navigating the asteroid storm and coming up in Maderna's chest with sharp jabs and ceiling-brushing rights while still bent inward. Uzcátegui willing to let Maderna connect on the odd jab or even 1-2 in order to lay heavy leather on him and pin him against the ropes. Uzcátegui showing he can master his opponent from any range. Maderna earning his respect, though, by taking all his punishment and still firing back every time he bounces off the ropes, or every time Uzcátegui eases up tension on his trigger finger.

Round 6

Uzcátegui is continuing to have fun in there, popping Maderna with playful lead rights and then dropping in to let his face rest in front of Maderna's name embroidered over his crotch, waiting until Maderna is done pumping out a straight flurry to rise with an uppercut & hook to back him up. Uzcátegui is turning and catching a lot of Maderna's shots on his shoulders or just ducking/slipping them even as he walks forward, and is taking advantage of every mistake and miscalculation on Maderna's part to land quick vicious 1-2s.
