As we know, the quarterfinals were rife with surprises, as tourney fave Félix Manuel "Golden Kid" Díaz Guzman was upset by eighth-seeded late sub Chia Santana, while #3 seed Fredrick "General Okunka" Lawson (touted a few years ago by some as the "guy that was going to knock out Mayweather and reign as welterweight king for years... ) had to rely on a gift decision to get past total unknown Baishanbo Nasiywula (both @CST80 and I had Nasiywula taking it 97-93). Let's see what the next stage has in store for us. Both are pretty appealing match-ups, tbh, based on styles, and should be competitive. Sergey Lubkovich is on standby as the primary alternate if anybody has to pull out for any reason - a berth earned by defeating Karim Mayfield on the QF undercard. Strangely, however, there is no fight lined up for him on this card (ie versus any of the QF losers, as expected) in case everything goes off without a hitch and he doesn't get the call-up.
I'm finding Solomon and Santana damn near impossible to split. I actually think a draw is very possible. What do they do, in that case? Hold up on scheduling the finals while they squeeze in a rematch? edit: I forgot, they have a 4th & 5th judge on-hand for this eventuality (they used them in Santana vs. Díaz)
This tournament looked good on paper to me,fringe guys in competitive 10 rounders but it’s just bland.
