José Uzcátegui is a 6'2 24 year old Super Middleweight with a 24-1 20 KO's record. Born in El Vigia, Venezuela and fighting out of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. While skilled enough Jose is far from the best technical fighter, but he makes up for it with raw power, and sometimes with some opponents that all it takes. Most people got their first exposure to the Ooze-Cat when he went up against Matvey Korobov on HBO in a battle of undefeated fighters, he managed to go the distance with Korobov although he was dropped twice in the 7th round. Being outboxed by Korobov is nothing to be ashamed of, since he also beat Kovalev in the amateurs and was outboxing Andy Lee with ease up until the stoppage. So recently he was chosen to be the step opponent for Julius Jackson, the son of Julian Jackson, and what a fateful decision it was for Julius to face Jose, Jose obliterated the undefeated Jackson dropping him 3 times in the first round and was well on his way of dropping a few more times, until Tony Weeks had seen enough and waved it off in the second round. It appears the additional weight he gained moving up to SMW is just what his far too big for MW 6 foot 2 frame needed. Super Middleweight just got a new beast, that the whole division needs to be on alert for, just based on his power alone he's a threat to most of the top guys. Bolivita means he's probably a supporter of Hugo Chavez' Bolivarian Revolution named after the great Venezuelan Leader Simon Bolivar, or it could just mean he's part Bolivian. Blanco is more versatile and has more upside, but yeah, Uzcátegui is exciting and his power is enough to probably see him occasionally beat guys he shouldn't. It wouldn't be surprising to see him drift in and out of the title picture for a good few years, with maybe a short tenure or two wearing a belt.

Yeah, I was going to use that to bump the thread later. I'd prefer seeing him against a Chudinov or Feigenbutz, of even Ramirez, but its most likely too soon to put him in with Degale or Bute.

Could Blanco beat a guy like Korobov yet? I lean towards No. He beat Khomitsky impressively but Sergey also lost to Bursak and Khoren Gevor pretty decisively as well. And this is a much older version of Khomitsky, who seems lately to only specialize in KTFO Brit fighters.

Sure, if it was the same Korobov that Uzcategui fought (the one who gassed in 4 rounds or whatever) he'd beat him handily.

You're writing off Korobov too soon IMO. Korobov while far from my favorite fighter from EE, he isn't that easy to beat, and could probably beat quite a few fighters at MW not named Andy Lee, and he might even beat him in a rematch.

I wrote Korobov off way too late, after the Uzcategui fight in fact, after that for me it was clear it was too late for him to REALLY make it big in the pros... But before that man, I was a believer for years, I was just hoping and waiting until he'd get that shot, alas it wasn't meant to be.

I think he can beat one of the weaker titlists, but I'm not getting my hopes up too much about that, I think he doesn't posses the mentality to make a great pro, that's his biggest problem.

I think IB was one of the guys who wrote him off way back, and it seems he was right in doing so.

I did too actually that's why I've never done a thread for him, and pick Lee to beat him. But I have my fingers crossed that maybe the KO loss kicked him in the ass a little...but probably not.:verysad

He can beat some weaker guys, but his stamina is his big downside
