two big time prospects. Who wins if they fought today? And who has the higher potential?? I heard Gavin is kind of lazy though and his last fight was at 147, when he should be campaigning at 140 if he dieted and trained properly. Benavidez I think would take Gavin out with a body shot. Benavidez will be the best body puncher in boxing in a couple years

Benavidez is the truth him and jesse vargas are the real deal ive watched a few fights from both of them and yeah I think they are both ready,Benavidez is younger so they will develop him a little more but vargas is ready now I saw his last fight a couple of weeks ago woooow he will be fighting again on the ortiz mayweather undercard so he will get the exposure the kid can fight

@southsidegym, he's not fighting on the same card, but is fighting on the same day. He is the co-main event in Parker, AZ. The fight will be televised on Fox Sports, and newly signed Mercito Gesta is also on the card.

Benavidez has impressed me so far, whereas Gavin has been hot and cold. He was awful last time out and his weight-making troubles are worrisome.

I think Benavidez is even better technically and has more power. I think he could be special in a couple of years.

Hopefully Gavin gets his act together because he undoubtedly has a lot of potential.

So i guess that means Frankie Gavin is the biggest thing in the UK now huh?

2 years ago it was Kevin Mitchell, then it was James Degale and until saturday it was Andy Murray.

    You brits are funny.

Your thinking of John Murray not Andy Murray, can never remember the brits thinking that John Murray was the biggest prospect in the uk either.

A year ago, I would have put them neck to neck, giving Gavin the slight edge due to amateur experience. Now, I give Benavidez a serious edge. Gavin has incredible tools, but doesn't seem to have the motivation to maximize them. At this point, I'd seriously consider Frankie Gomez to be ahead of Gavin as well. All three are in my overall top 10 prospects though.

Tougher to say who wins right now, since Gavin has gone 12 a couple times and neither Benavidez nor Gomez has gone beyond 6. Also, Benavidez and Gomez are both quite a bit younger than Gavin. While Gavin should be at 140 permanently but uses the Fernando Vargas/Ricky Hatton workout, I suspect both Benavidez and Gomez will see their best years north of 140.

Gavin has great potential but as that cliche goes youre only as good as youre last performance and Gavins was pretty poor. As was his previous one. Its a pity cos theres people would give anything to be blessed with the talent he has and right now hes wasting it.

Benavidez is oone of America's top prospects. I think he has a great future and would beat Gavin. with that being said that doesnt make Gavin bad or a hype or whatever. he is a great fighter.

Gavin has bags of talent and his potential I believe eclipses Benavidez but
he has shown signs that he doesnt have the dedication or motivation to reach
his potential, which is a shame.

He was fleshy and overweight in his last fight, talking how he cant make 140lbs anymore and then changing his mind as soon as he puts in a poor showing, he takes his nickname 'funtime' a bit too seriously I think.

Needs his arse kicking big time by Farnell and his management team.
