Heard many stories coming out of the Wild Card gym that he held his own with Manny in sparring and even got the better of Khan. Also, Roach is supposed to have said that Benavidez would beat Khan, even before Benavidez's professional debut. I can't imagine the last bit to be true.
I've heard the same. I honestly don't doubt it, cause I've seen interviews in which Roach speaks very highly of him. Another thing is that Roach is great at guiding young fighter's careers. Bad guidance sometimes destroys careers before they develop to full potential. I'm confident that wont be the case if Jose follows Roach's advice
It's sparring though. All the videos I've seen of Manny sparring his partner always gets the better of him, or should I say he lets them get the better of him. And I'm sure the same could be said for Khan, he's not gonna go all out on an upcoming prospect, he has **** all to prove. Benavidez has something to prove against Manny and Khan. It's same the same story as when Khan sparred Manny. Everyone was like OMG he can hang with Manny!!! But let's be honest he'd get ****ed up in a real fight.
I wonder who roach would choose to train if these two fight in the future if they are successful, and the public demands a fight between them. They are about the same size.
Sparring is a good indication of a fighters potential. I always hear people say that sparring is nothing, but I've seen some really tough sparring that truly test fighters. There is a reason Roach offers fighters money to lay Manny down during sessions. Heck, check some of Valero's sparring and tell me its nothing.
Frankie Gomez got the better of Jose back in the amateurs. Jose like a lot of guys under roach doesn't know how to fight on the inside.
This kid is a WW too aint he? Man there is going to be so many good fights around those divisions. He will probably face Canelo too. I think they are only 2 or 3 years apart in age.
when he fought Jirov and Holyfield which I think are two of the best wins in his career, he was under Roach. Also, Benavidez was under his father during the early, learning stages of his career when he was an amateur. Roach has only been with Benavidez for a couple of fights. So that works both ways.
exactly....how many ****en 17 year olds can say they went at it with pacquiao..... i ****en hate when people say that **** too "it's just sparring, who cares" :-( anyways, here it its.... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JL5DTKIbR0[/ame]
all of them bro, but of course alvarez more cause he's from over there......benavidez and gomez is gonna get built into some vargas vs hoya type of ****, watch :yep:yep:yep gomez seems like he reps his peeps more though, he's from cali while benavidez is from az and though it's the same culture, it's kind of different a bit......gomez seems to have more hunger while benavidez will probably be that kid that gets taken care of more and takes the spotlight away........
