Jose Benavidez looks pretty legit to me

  1. Definitely a prospect to keep an eye on. Had a chance to see him for the 2nd time this evening. Roach has got some stable right now.

    he is legit

but im afraid the hype will eventually rush him into a fight he shouldnt have took yet, give him 4-5 years before he fights for a title

    Ya, to soon to tell.

  6. He's got CRAZY amateur experience though, and Roach as his coach. Look at how Gamboa is doing, and Rigondeaux...that's all I'm saying. 4-5 years seems a bit too far out.

well maybe atleast 3 years, i just dont want to see another Vargas out of him

  9. **** happens, and who the hell fights NOT to win??? Vargas went for his and he even knocked Tito down at one point. He might've never beaten Tito but at least he went for it. I mention that because it's the fight that everyone so-called says ruined Vargas. You can only coddle a fighter for so long, and, as I said, it's not like the kid doesn't already have a ton of experience....just like Gamboa and many others. I just don't want him to go the JCC jr. route, know what I mean?

The tooling he gave Shawn Porter certainly opened my eyes.

I understand but its unfair to compare Gamboa's amateur pedigree to Jose's. Gamboa has won 3 olympic gold medals and been an amatuer for 15+ years, Benavidez is barely past that age. If he can be manuevered to an easy title while still a teenager then its all good. I would just hate it to see a 19 year old get pushed into a fight with someone like Bradley which could potentially destroy him from reaching his peak.

  13. The kid is a stick figure, no way would they put him in with Bradley. I don't see him moving out of that weight for quite awhile if he can help it.

No need for me to point out that it was only sparring.. STILL. Wild Card sparring is a little different.
