How much potential does this kid have? I seen a YouTube video of him sparring Shawn Porter and I gotta say I was impressed. Not to mention the kid is only 17. Roach also says Jose and khan are even when it comes to sparring. I know sparring isnt everything but this kid has talent. I would post the you tube video but I don't know howatsch by the way he's turning pro this December.. Atleast that's what roach said.

The Olympic gold medal glistened in the lights, the glare causing his head turn and his eyes to squint. But that didn't stop him from staring at it. It just made him want it more. Seventeen-year-old This content is protected Jose Benavidez Jr. thanked his friend, Olympic wrestling champion Henry Cejudo, for showing him the medal at Central Boxing, an old boxing gym near downtown Phoenix where the two train. Benavidez, known as "Junior," also thanked Cejudo for giving him a goal. "I'm really focusing on that gold in 2012," said Benavidez, a light welterweight (141 pounds) who has a 120-5 amateur record and has been invited to train at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. later this month. "That gold medal is something else. It's unbelievable." What also seemed unbelievable, until recently, was Benavidez's chances of actually obtaining one. His father and trainer, Jose Benavidez Sr., had his doubts. But that was before Junior's swift, accurate fists proved him wrong. Benavidez won the 141-pound National Golden Gloves title in Salt Lake City on May 9, six days before he turned 17, the sanctioned age to compete in a national open division tournament. At 16, he was at least three years younger than some of his opponents. He then reached the USA Boxing This content is protected Championships title fight in Denver in mid-June but lost on points, 11-9, to Frankie Gomez of Los Angeles. An overloaded schedule may have been too much for Benavidez, who fought in a regional tournament in between the two national championships. Still, USA Boxing was impressed and invited Junior, an This content is protected La Joya High student, to the U.S. Olympic Training Center where he will be tested, trained, and assessed. He is one of three top candidates at 141 pounds for the 2012 London Games. With his National Golden Gloves title and USA Boxing National Championships title appearance, Junior is ahead in points. "It's just a dream right now for us. I can't believe it," said Jose Benavidez Sr., a This content is protected parent who was just 15 when his son was born. "There were many times when I just wanted to throw in the towel because it's been really, really hard. I just wanted to keep him off the streets. "And the thing is, not a lot of people make it far in this sport. But his goal since he was little is to go to the Olympics. As a parent, I can't say, 'No, you can't.' I had some doubt if he really had it in him. Then (in the This content is protected tournaments), he blew my mind. He was really fast, really technical." Because Benavidez is taller than most of his opponents at 5-feet-11, his best weapon is his jab. It could be his ticket to London in 2012. But the key to gold may be a power shot to the body. "A lot of guys, you can be hit the hardest in the face and won't go down," Benavidez Jr. said. "But if they get hit with a good kidney shot? They're done, man." He will have plenty of time to refine his skills and build his Olympics credentials. USA Boxing isn't expected to choose its Olympic team until July 2011. After his two-week stint at Colorado Springs, he will compete in two tournaments (Kansas City and Houston) in August. For the next year, Benavidez Sr. expects his son to have 15 fights. It's something Junior can't wait for. "I've tried soccer, tried baseball; none of these This content is protected gave me the adrenaline rush like boxing," he said. "It's a whole different story when I get in the ring. The rush I get. I can't explain it. It's something else."
i just saw him on you tube he looks good,Hes like a 6-0 Jw and he isnt even that skinny looks strong and hes only 17! This kid is probably gonna be a future star if hes already giving Kahn all he could handle:bbb Roach sounds very impressed with this kid. I wonder if hes ever sparred with Manny?
Yep theres our next Star:hey Got another Mexican prospect to talk about on that **** talking thread that some ******* started.
From what I hear and from the looks of it,I think he would beat up Chavez jr right Now! This kid is already giving Kahn all he could handle:bbb
Yep, I cant tell either, earlier today they gave me another Mexican prospect at Light Welterweight-Welterweight, but ussaly any Mexican at those weights is a prospect. Difference is, we know this guy went 120-5 in the AMQs and was gonna repersent USA at the olympics. If he turns pro, it'll be at either of those weights. he should be good, I checked Carlos Negrons AM record and its 93 wins with 9 loses, nothing like these Cubans with 300 fights, but all of them were in Cuba, no? There plenty of youtube videos so that means he has a following. any more info on him?
and whos this Danny Garcia? At first i taught he was Mexican but it might seem hes Puerto Rican. Hes 21 and i seen some of his fights on TVs and PPvs, he also is in the wElterweight divsion, so theres your competition for him. Also they kinda look alike lol
