I always thought a Hall of Fame was for the best of the best. Gatti was little more than a clubfighter with an entertaining style.
Oh please, so because guys like Vargas, Gatti, and Hamed had a little more fame they deserve to be in the HOF more than an overachiever with a better resume like Castillo? That's just plain ridiculous. Like I said before, he's been widely overlooked the majority of his career, but if you take a serious look at his outstanding career wins you can't deny the man his props.
I've made the point before that I think the HOF is simply an acknowledgement of a contribution to the sport rather than a gauge of great fighters. JLC is a shoe in.
I think if you have one of the greatest fights of ALL TIME, then its okay if they stick you into the HOF...
Not enough. Castillo lost all his big fights (Mayweather, Corrales and Hatton). He beat Correales being over-weight and his win over Casamayor was very controversial. The best I could see for Castillo is a draw.
He seems very borderline to me, in the same clump of guys as Hamed. He might get in because the standards for the Hall are very lax, but he was never someone I thought of as being 'great'.
