Of the Corrales/Castillo/Freitas/Casamayor quartet, this is the only match that never took place.

If they fought in around 2003-04, who wins?

My pick is Castillo by late rounds stoppage.

    Castillo TKO9

His superior strength and his pressure will wear Popo down.

I think Freitas can win a UD, Castillo's a pressure fighter, but very slow and not a swarmer. A prime Freitas was very good and he'd land a lot of very powerful punches on castillo due to defensive issue's.

Toss up, but I favour Freitas. Castillo also doesn't have Corrales type KO power at all.

At 135, I was never convinced with Popo.

Castillo would have made him a tool. Either a late TKO or UD.

JLC by KO or No Mo by quitting which ever comes first. Not tom mention 135 wasn't Freitas' best weight

Freitis was always a wastful fighter. He threw to much to early, moved around to much when it wasnt necessary, put to much on his punches when he shouldnt have and loved the low percentage shots. Good skills and a truly natural talent but lacked ring smarts.
He got away with it early because he didnt face good fighters early. But cracks started to appear when he couldnt get guys out early.
His wins over Casa and Barrios are huge wins and even bigger in hindsight but Castillo is different to these guys.

Castillo would just walk him down, he is a pretty smart fighter and knows how to wear people out. He may not throw as many as Diaz or hit as hard as Corrales but he is somewhere in between them in both these fields.
Freitis just didnt like to work or fight when tired, Castillo soaks up the early onslaught and probably stops him late.

I liked Freitas, but in '03/'04, he was too much of a wild card. Castillo was very consistant, and Freitas would waste his energy trying to blast Castillo out of there early.

So I'd say it's a late round stoppage for Castillo, at that time.

Acelino Freitas is a personal fav of mine.
but he always seemed like he was discouraged in his fights.
Not to question his passion & heart, but maybe he lacked that
    true fighters instinct.

that being said, I'd have to go with Castillo by TKO.
Freitas would not come out after the 8th round.
