I'd say he was one of my favorites. Not too sure why- he was charasmatic, and almost always had exciting fights because of his emotional, often hyper-active style.

But how would you defend his quitting against Corrales and Diaz?

It basically illuminated there that he was no longer serious nor passionate about boxing, and also the fact that when he is faced with great adversity, he crumbled and respond to it with quitting.

I saw the fight with Barrios, and it was an evenly matched fight, which was very different from his two fights with Corrales and Diaz.

    Castillo by Freitas quittage...

Freitas at 130 was a lot better than he gets credit for, though. His fight with Barrios is a classic.

Freitas was no longer focused on boxing. He didn't want it anymore. When he faced adversity before, he fought like a lion. Watch his fights against Ramirez, Barrios, Casamayor, Nelson. Popó was knocked down several times in his career.
His quitting against Corrales is acceptable. He ran out of gas in the 7th after scholling Corrales in the first sixth. Freitas was being knocked down round after round, was seriously hurt in the tenth and behind on 2 scorecards.
Freitas had no business against Diaz. One year retired, mentally shot and weigh-drained (he was walking around at 165+ during his retirement).
Would you say the Freitas that fought Diaz is the same hungry Freitas that almost killed Alexandrov in the first round ?

    That's the point.

At 135, he was no longer the same fighter he was at 130. Heart or no heart, he quit against Corrales, whom he was outboxing for most of the fight. But then, he got hurt. And that was it.

Just to add another point, I don't think he will hurt Castillo. If he had already outboxed and landed a lot of his power punches against Corrales in the majority of the fight, and STILL it did not faze nor discourage Corrales, I don't think he can last a distance with Castillo, or if ever he would, it would be a UD for JLC.

His showings at 135 would only show us two things:
He was not as effective as when he was at 130. His power, his main weapon, was not there anymore.
He was no longer motivated after that Corrales quitting.
