Just about no one "grinds" JLC down, not at his weight, not when he was in his prime. To smart, to strong and to proud. A brutal fight, a long one, one that may see-saw but one I just cant see Manny winning. At some point somethings got to give.. As special as Manny is, he started out as a world champ at fly and Castillo probably cuts more weight than any other fighter out there to make 135. Size and weight isnt really a factor against the David Diaz's of the world but against a fellow elite, its can mean a world of difference.
Castillo is at least as tough as David Diaz at 135, with better power and skill set. Jose Luis Castillo being the far proven commodity at the weight, by decision or late stoppage.
How so? Not agreeing or disagreeing at this point, just wanted to see why exactly you think that it would be.
I disagree. People often see JLC is a crude pressure fighter but it's simply not the case he was a complete fighter. JLC had a great jab which he would use to work his way inside he also knew how to cut off a ring very well. Once he got inside he was one of the best body punchers in the game and the best pressure fighter of his era. He would simply be too much to handle for Pac who wouldn't hurt JLC and would be roughed up on the inside by the bigger stronger man. People tend to forget that JLC was a huge LW and a skilled fighter. JLC by late round TKO is the smart pick here.
Very much agree, well said. That was basically what I was going to say to Pharoah if his justification for saying JLC was "tailor made for Pac" was something along the lines of that he was a brawler with little skill. People remember Castillo for the Corrales fight and fair enough but tactically thats one of the worst fights you are going see JLC fight. I remember him more for the intelligent and gritty performances he gave against Mayweather and Stevie J. Castillo was a smart fighter and pressured people beautifully. He built the pace instead of throwing everything he had early, he made people hurt not just physically but mentally. He defence wasnt pourous, he had a good guard, judged distance well and counter punched nicely. Castillo just made you work to hard to get a round off him.
I agree 100%. Pac would try to go to war with JLC like he did with EM and MAB and it won't work against JLC. Who's a naturally bigger man than both EM and MAB and he would get stopped doing so. He doesn't hit harder than JLC or Chico does at 135 and most people don't realize this. Pac's only chance would be trying to outbox JLC and you know he can't do that either.
I pick Pac because this is a case of styles. Corrales who is alot slower than Pac tagged Castillo so many times, unlike Corrales Pac's punches comes in proper combinations and not 1 punch each. Pac's speed combined with his power wins this for him. I dont see how Castillo KO's Pac either, he wont get hit enough and if Castillo couldnt crack Corrales chin properly, he wont be cracking Pac's. Alot will look at PBF-Castillo, PBF had power & speed. Personally I find PBF power at that weight overrated, also bare in mind PBF had an injured hand, he was hardly gonna deliver much power. That on top with the fact he kept moving back and not sitting on his punches. On top of that PBF was an inexperienced boxer and his biggest weakness during that time was a clever pressure fighter, his own inexperience against pressure fighter like Castillo and injured hand contributed alot to Castillo's success.
Not buying it dangerous to be honest mate. Castillo dropped Corrales 3 times in 2 fights, once for the count. If that aint cracking it then what is? PBF's power overrated at lightweight? Well Floyd aint known for his power but his results speak for themself. He absolutely owned Ndou with a very impressive display of power punching at lightweight. He "cracked" Corrales' and many others chin at superfeather. And it was obvious his power was still there when he hammered Gatti & Brussles at 140 I cant see how his power was decent at 130 and 140 but he forgot to bring it to 135. Pac hasnt got the defensive tools of PBF or Johnson. Once Castillo figures him out, there isnt much to fall back on and I wouldnt bet money on him overpowering the bigger man. Castillo had an answer for most styles, he has a good record against fast guys, he is very hard to outbrawl and southpaws werent a big problem either.
What do you mean? JLC stopped Chico in the rematch. I also don't think it will be anything like PBF-JLC first Pac doesn't have the movement or defense of a PBF nor is he as complex he's rather easy to figure out. He would get hit alot more than PBF did in that fight. A guy like Pac likes to comes forward and trade and against a bigger and stronger guy like JLC that would be his undoing.
Prime Castillo at 135 will walk threw Pac.Cant belive a lot of people here think Pac will KO Castillo
