How would this have played out if Lopez had kept his head on his shoulders, forgone the weed and surfing and focussed on his top level boxing talent? Lopez was the definition of a dangerous opponent and Felix was, at too many times, vulnerable but had the heart of a true champ. Thoughts, please.
I think even if Lopez is on his game he loses. Lopez is romanticized (a little too romanticized), and he WAS a formidable fighter when focused, but I just see Trinidad as the better fighter and more special talent. Lopez was too hittable - Trinidad definitely had him beat in terms of defense. And although Lopez had an excellent chin, he never fought anybody with Tito's power and accuracy. Regardless of your chin, Trinidad was not a guy you wanna consistently take shots from. I actually think Trinidad gets him outta there late. Not a clean KO, but the ref would have to intervene and save Lopez.
The odds would favor Tito greatly, too much so. I would bet a ton on Lopez. He could take a monster shot and almost always got his guy hurt. And Tito could be hurt. You're only betting on whether Maestrito could finish him. If memory serves, Lopez had a penchant for hurting his opponents at the end of rounds after waiting too long.
I pretty much see it the same. A stoppage similar to the Campas fight, but it would take Tito longer to get Lopez outta there.
A good possibility Tito is going to hit the canvas. He would most likely dig deep get up fighting. Exciting fight, Lopez would be a live dog and yea worth a bet with the right odds. Trinidad had that laser accuracy and the quicker hands. I think he would really have to put a beating on Lopez to stop him. He might though.
