For once I disagree with Mantequilla. Mosleys tenure at 135 isn't really that impressive. Mosley has flourished (in spurts mind you) from his move to 147 onwards IMO His slight inconsistencies show he is a bloody good fighter if not a top 100 fighter. He has a chance to solidify his spot (I personally have him in the 80-90 mark) this year, if Floyd decides to man up. Mosleys problem us he has such a glaring weakness: he has little skill in movemnt. I wouldn't really bet against him against anyone who stands in front of him, but in terms of multi-faceted fighters I don't like Shanes chances as much. Which is why Floyd SHOULD beat him easy as anything. But personally I dint think Floyd can deal with someone as good as Mosley so it's not as clear cut. But back to my original point, his time at 135 gets massively overrated IMO
I was really just thinking of almost every single performance after the Forrest loss...that's close enough to a decade ago for me.He's been almost consistently failing to live up to his reputation since it imo...though watching something like the Rivera fight right in the middle of his supposed peak, makes me wonder if he ever really had it.
Lopez was a huge stoner outside of the ring, liked to smoke reefer and surf from what I've heard. It was pretty obvious that he was a stoner in the Campas fight when he ate ****ing atomic bombs from Yory like nothing. I watched the fight a few days ago and he actually kept smiling, when he was hit, walking back to the corner... Quartey couldn't do anything to him as well, and Ike put Oscar down pretty good and rattled his brains several times. Oscar had a very good chin himself.
Agreed and kind of what I was alluding to in my post. I think Mosley came with a lot of hype at the lower weights, and lot of it was because of Eddie Futches constant public high praise of him in the earlier part of his career. He was always strong and at the lower weights he was knocking guys out spectacularly. Bottom line is he faced the best fighters at the higher weights, and there really is no barometer to a Vernon Forrest, Winky Wright, ODLH or Margarito at 135 to prove he was any greater, only that he was stronger.
What does surfing have to do with anything? Surfing is awesome exercise and keeps you in great shape. Surfing and smoking pot are not as synonomous as Jeff Spicolli made it seem in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
Maybe, but the way Cotto played sliding along the ropes was, frankly, pretty damned skillful and I wouldn't have expected it of him, and therefore thought he had actually planned and trained for this strategy. If not, that was some hellagood off the cuff work by Cotto, even if it failed after six rounds. Mosley I think really was hurting Tony with body shots and I think one of Cotto's biggest failings against Tony was not firing to his body and backing up, no matter how well he fought that way at first. There really aren't too many if any other welters that have the fortitude to use Mosley's gameplan against Margo and it makes me think if he does still have a reasonable amount left, he'll make it to a title again.
I hope shane does. Cotto was moving in fastforward it seemed and that can wear a guy out. I gotta say though that that is one of my fav fights and I can watch it at anytime. It really was a triumph of the spirit to me when Tony won and FINALLY received the acclaim he deserved after being on the outside looking in for so long.:thumbsup
Yes but dont you think that win is vastly tarnished now, especially considering Mosley, who Cotto beat, was able to fight more of a Cottoesque type fight against Margo?
Yeah, I was attempting to put it out there that he was seemingly more interested in surfing then boxing there lefthook.
that's the sad part of the deal. but since noone knoews one way or the other, i just take it as it is. I hope he can come back strong, but that was a BAD beating to Shane. I think Cotto should retire after the last 5 beatings win or lose that he took except for that easy fight last feb. He will end up like Gatti getting beat down by a lesser fighter like Gomez if he continues long. His face just falls apart in fights now and he takes a LOT of punishment.:-((
That is an interesting fight. Castillo was a good fighter and now is slowed down enough to make this a superclubfight.
Castillo was undoubtedly a very good fighter but the last time out that I saw him was back in 08 against Lujan. Lujan is alright but Castillo practically made him look slick to me. I just don't like seeing these guys dragging on until something like Gatti/Gomez finally happens.
