No, he definitely intended it in the "defensive skills" sense - it was some Napoles vs. Trinidad debate or something, and he claimed that Napoles would end up getting bombed a lot due to lack of defence

Would you describe Roberto Duran as a defensive fighter?

The likes of Willie Pep, Nicolino Locche, Pernell Whitaker, those are who I view as great defensive fighters.

This doesn't mean Duran or Napoles don't have great defense, but they don't necessarily go out on their way to avoid getting hit.

That's the way I feel about it atleast.

I think he kind of indicates that Napoles simply wouldn't be running from Trinidad, and he did pick Napoles to win.

Why? Malignaggi couldn't knock out Napoles if he was carrying an axe.

I'm as big a Napoles fan as you'll find, and even I wouldn't consider him a truly "great" defensive fighter. Excellent, certainly, but a notch or two below the true defensive masters. Duran, while assuming even more of an attacking role than Napoles the majority of the time, was more talented in that area. He'd be one of the only examples of a truly great offensive and defensive fighter.
