Mantequilla v Sweet Pea… I don't think Pernell would be able to convincingly outslick Jose and that this one would need meaningful exchanges to determine a winner. Who takes it over 15?
EEeeeehhh, very very difficult. I think it's difficult because Whitaker at welterweight wasn't as special as he was elsewhere, although he was impressive enough against Giant De La Hoya, for example, to make me wonder. He is a real rhythm breaker, difficult to time and to control. Napoles? Very special but perhaps wants to be able to establish a bit of a strategic quilt either by default or with something particular in mind. Could he get that going against Whitaker? With Oscar, it didn't really matter, he just sort of trundled forwards and won (barely) on size almost regardless, but I think the shoe might be on the other foot here because it'd be Whitaker performing regardless, getting out when he wanted, choosing when exchanges take place. Would that be enough to get him home? Over fifteen rounds i'd make this one almost 50.50. Over twelve, I think that Napoles would probably just get out-clipped. Split decision for Pea.
Excellent match up but at 147 I like Napoles who was far ether than Oscar ever was and 147 was not Whitaker's prime weight ..
Napoles beats Whitaker 10-5 LOL.. What are you smoking? Whitaker takes this and I'm not sure it would be all THAT hard. A good fight no doubt, a tough one 2, but not an overly concerning style for Pea to deal with. For me, whitaker simply better, and that isnt' taking anything away from Napoles.
The good stuff,.They didn't call Jose Mantequilla for nothing, and Pernell would find this out real quick.Pernell is the man, but Napoles is one of the few fighters at the weight that I think could beat him.
This is more like I see it, as Napoles was a totally different kettle of fish than anyone else Whitaker ever fought, and was superior as a welterweight. A couple of kds would nail it for Mantequilla,...and lets have none of that **** about cuts, as it wouldnt happen.
