If you know the Samba, you can time Napoles [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GR-kuFNSXrA[/ame] Seriously RC said was hilarious, but if a fighter does have a rythm he is predictable and can be timed. Was Napoles a rythm fighter? No I don't think so, the highlight video looks rythmatic because he's throwing combinations to finnish an opponent As Arguello's strategy, to impose his jab and uppercut and hook on the inside, maybe some jab and grab spoiling. He's 1 of the best inside fighters for a tall man but this is Napoles range he wants to take away. The thing is Napoles was just too smooth, would take away the best jabs to glide inside and let fast combinations rip.
There is no way Arguello should be the default choice, styles make fights remember. Weaknesses that Napoles can exploit. Slow feet. Not the greatest of defences That is two massive weaknesses as they play right into Napoles, insanely accurate and powerful, hands. No, Arguello was declining and as Duo said he became a 'get hit and counter type of guy', he basically abandoned the aggression and boxing to become a counter-puncher, and for the right reasons, he had to do that to fight Pryor IMO. And look Arguello gave a heroic effort against Pryor, I can harldy hold anything against him on it. Has Arguello fought a Napoles? This is some fluff tocover your wrong aint it? :yep :rofl:rofl :rofl:rofl Nah, personally I think if Arguello does try to apply the pressure, Napoles superior footwork will allow him to really counter-punch Arguello, especially if Arguello starts to lead off. I think Arguello's best chance is to feint and then look to counter as Napoles reacts, catching him coming in with counters, jabbing him off balance etc.... And even then you still have to favour Napoles to get the better of it. Although it could become a fairly close fight and resulting in Napoles being tentative for long spells.
He may well have trained to samba music and had it subliminally internalized, as many champions trained to music. Prior to the originally scheduled Boston date of Ali-Liston II, Sonny reportedly abandoned the use of "Night Train" in favor of music with a faster beat in an effort to accelerate his pace and timing, and trained himself down to 208 in the process before Muhammad's hernia scuttled everything., It would have been very interesting to see if Liston could have succeeded in shifting his gears to a higher tempo on November 16, 1964. (And hell, if Ali had suffered his hernia in mid fight, we might have a much bigger controversy today than Lewiston ever was, medical facts be damned, and the circus of circuses for a rubber match.)
Did you watch the video? I have my doubts. Napoles moves in and out on the same rythem every time. There is another reason Arguello wins. Experance. While Arguello was better at 130 than 135. He put together a string of solid wins at 135. Napoles on the other hand was fighting a lot of journymen in his adopeted home of Mexico.
Hey, rip, here's a suggestion, and bare with me here, it might sound crazy. Why not actually watch his fights? You know, instead of basing your analysis of him on how well cut a video was to his movements? Do you not realise how incredibly stupid that is? The video was cut and spliced together to match up with the music. My God!
Stop. Just stop. Please. You're just embarrassing yourself on multiple levels more and more. It's getting sad.
Yes but I really don't think he's a rythm fighter, in his fights he picks his spots or reacts to his opponent. Also Samba can make anything look rythmatic because of the beats speed
